I don't know much about this Briles situation. Stayed away from college news the past many months.
I'll research it and come back to give my yay or nay on the hire. Be right back.
Edit:
Okay, I'm back. This is a tricky situation. Briles didn't seem to be very involved in the effort to investigate these accusations, as he delegated it. Seems the people he delegated it to attempted to more or less "cover it up". Briles kicked Ukwuachu off the team, but the University let him stay on campus??? That's a wft moment... I guess the administration paid for it to for keeping him on campus. They were pretty much fired or forced to resign.
There is not much due process for the the accused here. If a university receives a statement from a victim of sexual assault, they seem to be forced to expedite punishment to the accused, especially when the public has already tried and sentenced the accused (See Duke Lacrosse team). But I don't know if there's another way the University could handle these situations.
Is this Briles issue comparable to Paterno?

Auburn fans will scream about Sark, but he has a personal problem that got out of control. Briles oversaw a program that allowed sexual assault to be covered up.
So if you are doing a reprehensible action, that is ok. If you are allowing a reprehensible action that is not ok?

A friend in need is a friend indeed, and Gus is just trying to reach down and pick up a lost brother. Help Art out of the dirt and dust him off and help him get on the right path.

No, haven't heard a word from AU fans.

With hiring Pearl and now potentially Briles
Nowhere close to the same situations.

Auburn folks just don't understand
Just stop. It's just a football rivalry for frick's sake.

Art Briles is pro rape. Gus doesn't need a coach who is pro rape around the program.

It would be quite ironic if Auburn hired Briles, yet they wouldn't hire Petrino 4 years ago.
Briles' baggage is 1000x worse.
I'll believe it when I see it. Don't really see it happening.

. I wouldn't call it a huge movement, but it appears some auburn fans would be fine with it if it produces a better offense.
So a few dumbasses on a message board support it and you assume "Auburn fans" support it.
That is like saying Alabama fans support Harvey Updyke.
Briles is not coming to Auburn. I would pretty much get that out of your head and your net. Its a totally different situation than Stark or Pearl.. Even more than Bobby P.
Not going to happen.

Bert should also be looking over his shoulder. Briles and Jerry Jones are good buds.
Jerry's grandson, John Stephen Jones, is a hot QB prospect at Highland Park High school in Dallas. Jerry said he would love to have John Stephen to play for Briles.

First, lumping Pearl in with Briles makes zero sense. Acting like Pearl is some morally repugnant person is just laughable from a team that has Sark and Kiffen.
Second, Auburn people understand the deal on Briles. I want Briles influence, but I'm definitely concerned about the backlash in an environment where there is simply no opportunity to "explain" decisions. It's all optics, all 140 character conclusions.
Third, the Briles stuff is really weird. As I said on Saturday, the stuff out of Waco where it breaks down what really happened in the football program simply doesn't connect to Briles very much. And there isn't that much of it. But Briles doesn't seem inclined to shift the blame to the rest of Baylor (large majority of the incidents didn't have anything to do with football, apparently). I dislike Baylor and was someone who crucified Briles. But I have to admit, when I read the report, it was a ton of fluff. I just don't know what to believe.

Nearly every college coach in the country is represented by Jimmy Sexton, so this has very little sway one way or the other

Art Briles will be Auburn's next coach. Jay Jacobs will see to that.

Lol
Bama logic.
Didn't they sign a known woman beater and then dismiss him for beating another woman?
We only sign murderers at UF. So we're good.

quote:Not as much as you would like. Briles has already apologized and asked forgiveness in a very open and honest way...IF Auburn decided to let him back as our OC next year, then it would get minimal scrutiny and most of that would be coming from the state run media that all but endorses all things Alabama.
Auburn will get killed in the media if they hire Briles
There will also be some gnashing of teeth from the bible belt Auburn fans, but in the end, when he starts producing on the field, the noise will subside and no one will care.
