Art Briles has been wandering around the country looking for employment. Texas Monthly's Matt Mosley claims Art and Gus are good friends (both represented by Jimmy Sexton). In fact Artie sent one of his former players to the Plains.

quote:

Briles and Malzahn have a close relationship, which explains how one of his former Baylor recruits, Kameron Martin, is now a running back at Auburn.

Auburn will get killed in the media if they hire Briles. Auburn fans will scream about Sark, but he has a personal problem that got out of control. Briles oversaw a program that allowed sexual assault to be covered up. Huge difference that Auburn folks just don't understand. With hiring Pearl and now potentially Briles, the media will kill them and deservedly so.

I like your potential future retorts here based off a scenario likely to not happen

I don't understand why they would get any shite for hiring Pearl. Many programs were looking to get him. Hell, everyone at Alabama wanted him except Bill Battle.

Briles is a different scenario.

I'm as big an Auburn fan as anyone. I will no longer support the school nor the athletic department, monetarily or otherwise, if they hire art briles. There's no comparison to him and the sark situation. I want them to win as bad as anyone, but we have to draw the line somewhere. It is a school first and foremost, not a fricking football machine

If Briles comes to Auburn in any title, I will no longer support the football program.

What he allowed is not acceptable and it sends the wrong message to every female on campus.

Is there some big movement by Auburn fans to hire him?

Who were these programs? Do you honestly think Pearl is at Auburn if many programs were looking to get him? We are talking Auburn basketball not football. If some top programs had been coming after him at the same time Auburn was he would not be at Auburn. The man never had a losing record as a coach until he came to Auburn. Now he has two losing seasons as a head coach.

And before Auburn fans get all riled up you could say the same thing about Bama basketball.

Guess I remember it wrong then. I vaguely remember everyone wanting Grant gone and seeing the opportunity of Pearl there.

I admit I peruse Auburn boards and other sec team boards as well. I have seen numerous threads supporting the hiring of Briles by Auburn fans. Many of them use Bama hiring Sark as a correlation to hiring Briles. I wouldn't call it a huge movement, but it appears some auburn fans would be fine with it if it produces a better offense.

I guess it depends on who you're referring to when you say "everyone." Lots of fans wanted him, but I don't think there was anyone within the athletic department that wanted him. Certainly none of the decision makers did, and I've heard that Saban can't stand the guy. Not that Saban has any say in the basketball hire, but they're not going to make a hire that will upset him.

I was talking from the fans perspective. Probably should have clarified that.

there were some really dumb fans that were suggesting to hire Briles after our first game, but by and large our fanbase would revolt if we hired him.

There were some knee jerk reactions after the Clemson shitshow but I doubt there are many who actually want Briles, and if they do they must not have a grasp of the situation.
