That can't be accurate. He was tied for top 40 time among 6 SS's at the combine and was faster than 6 of 9 FS's: LINK
Looking through past combines, 4.53 is above average. Interesting that Eric Reid also ran 4.53

Collins is really a 3rd-4th round pick. He is going to be a liability in pass coverage in a pass happy league. Otherwise, he will be added to the bust list below.
NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr.'s concerns about Alabama first-round draft prospects Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and C.J. Mosley go beyond his personal analysis of them.
On an ESPN conference call Wednesday afternoon, Kiper said the play of past Crimson Tide defensive players in the NFL who have been high draft picks will play into his evaluation of Clinton-Dix and Mosley.
"It is something you have to look at because there have been a host of players out of that Alabama defense that over the years have come in as high draft choices and, frankly, been major disappointments," Kiper said.
Kiper listed Rolando McClain, Kareem Jackson, Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick and Terrence Cody as examples of Tide defensive stars who haven't played up to where they were drafted.
I think Mark Barron is a good player but just not as good as he was picked.

That's a little out-dated. Since Kiper said those things not only did CJ Mosley and Ha-Ha live up to their first round draft positions, but Rolando and Dre had good seasons. Kareem just signed a four-year, $34 million contract with $20 million guaranteed which seems like a lot for a bust but what do I know?

Alright, I'll step out from the mold.
I hope he gets picked by the right team and does well. He's talented, and a hard worker, and will do wonders for the right team. It's obvious he got dealt a bad hand. He deserves a fair shot to be a star.

Collins was inconsistent in coverage last season though. At his best he was amazing (Florida and State games come to mind) but he had a couple of really bad ones (Mississippi and OSU). I see him as a late first round, early second type of guy but the talent at safety is seemingly lacking after him so I wouldn't be surprised to see a team scoop him up a bit early.
OSU? He played great most of the game and did so injured. Played with a ton of heart and gave it everything he had.

The 40 time argument is ridiculous. He isn't a liability in coverage because of a lack of speed. He's a liability because, from what I've seen which is very limited, he gets caught looking in the backfield.
He will be drafted as a SS and will be a good one in the NFL. He just doesn't have the instincts in coverage to play FS.

This. He likely has a solid career, maybe even a great career. He just won't do so as a CF-type FS

All that and the guy's gonna be a 1st round draft choice! Who said that it wasn't the smart move for a recruit to come to Bama where EVERYONE gets drafted.

Can't tell if you just hate Alabama that much, or if you're still salty an 18-year-old didn't decide to attend your favorite school.
Either way, with an analysis like that, you might not want to tune in April 30th.
