I have no bitterness towards Landon Collins going to Bama. He was a solid player on some good defenses. Wouldn't have got to play much his first 2 years at LSU. He has the tackling ability of an average linebacker with the cover skills of Craig Loston. Wouldn't have been as good as Reid, Taylor, Landry, Steltz... Jamal Adams probably would have taken his spot this year, much like Beckwith took Welter's. Wish him the best though

He's like a Laron Landry. He'll likely be a solid in-the-box safety in the NFL, but put him in coverage and he is going to get eaten up.

Is there something wrong with having a Roman Harper type pro career?

I just hope my life never gets so pathetic that I have to go on message boards and run down college kids in order to boost my own sense of self worth.

Now Landry didn't have coverage problems until he got to the NFL.

That's true, but I'm talking about his game translating to the NFL. Regardless of his 40-time, Collins is a good athlete and has good instincts playing the run (in-the-box). He is never going to be playable as a CF-type safety though.

No. But the fact that he's going in the first round speaks more to the DB depth in this year's draft than it does his talent.

The same can be said for Jalen Collins.

Well, it seems Landon made a great choice to go early. Could be a wise/lucrative buisness decision.

well Harper was picked like 2nd in the 2nd round. So, if we are saying that he is a Harper clone, it's not much of a stretch to think Collins is a first rounder. He's got the rings and AA selections that Harper never had and his 40 time is better.

My enduring vision of him is getting dusted by Marshall in the Iron Bowl.

why are people trying to make out like a 4.53 is a bad time for a safety? its a verygood time, especially for a guy of his weight. the average nfl safety probably runs about a 4.6.

word. also, 40 time is pretty meaningless predictor of nfl success, unless you are drastically slow relative to similar players. richard sherman runs a 4.56 at cb and is probably the best in the game

Straight line speed is also way different than football speed. If you get a good jump on the play and know what your looking for to happen you will make the play. It's about playing smart, not being able to run a 40 unless your just looking for a player to catch someone from behind on a busted play which is probably your fault anyway if your a safety.

I view Landon Collins as a better version of Deone Bucannon, who was drafted in the 1st round out of Washington State.

If this site is accurate, his 40 time is in the bottom 3rd of the league for strong safeties.
