I don't share Savage's opinion on the "ownership" of UGA or Mark Richt. But the only thing flukey about the game in Knoxville was that it was even close.

I know, you pretty much kicked our arse. But if he can pretend your Athletic Dept isn't a dumpster fire I can pretend our game was close, right?

"Georgia faces a big risk by firing Mark Richt"........uh, no. This isn't the Political Talk forum. No one will picket around Sanford Stadium or boycott UGA football games.

^^^this is it right here. Any coach we would consider can beat UK, Vandy and Mizzou while getting frog-stomped by Bama and UF. What's the risk?? I see none.

Wow Mizzou is now grouped with Vandy and UK because of a bad season.

UGA gets top 10 classes every year and needs a bowl game to get to 10 wins.

It's not surprising to see that Richts best years were at the beginning of his tenure.

UGA may lose to UK, AU & Ga Tech....that would about do it or there would be lynching mob outside Richts office. Its over now...UGA is already doing back room talks imo to line up a replacement...Richt is done. No bowl game would drive the red and blacks to heavy drinking and I havent even mentioned Ga Southern yet.

You see no risk? Richt is the worst you can do? Lol

By all means...

Many programs with stronger history than Georgia have went on prolonged trips out into the wilderness.

Like I said, I get it. It's entitlement, but I get it. You guys are just sick of having the same coach. You want a shiny new toy.

Odds are against you, but go for it.

There is nothing to gain by keeping Richt. His record shows his best years are behind him. He has won nothing in the last 10 years despite being in one of the most talent rich recruiting areas in the country. His record against top 15 teams over the last 7 years has been turrible. At some point you got to cut your loses and move on.

"it's not surprising to see Richt's best years were at the beginning of his tenure"........what about 2007? That was in the middle of his reign. Many football analysts felt Georgia was the nation's best team that year, and should have played Ohio State in the NCG.......what about 2012? Again Georgia was simply among the best, only the ill timed slip by Conley prevented a matchup vs. Notre Dame for the championship.

Another example of completely fricking up, and more than once, is Nebraska. Solich and Pelini were decent and they replaced them with 2 coaches that took the program to the ground.

It is a risk I agree.

I don't want shiny toys, but a shiny trophy or two would be nice.

Fwiw I was a big supporter of Richt and thought he put some pieces in place to give us a great 5-7 year run. But I was harshly reminded this year that coaching matters. You guys milk every ounce of talent from your roster. Do you think we do??

When you lose to Kentucky and Vandy in the same season, you're automatically relegated to the cellar dweller status.

You can earn your way back out tho. But there is simply no excuse for that.

The odds of it getting worse are very slim. Things may stay the same, but getting worse is doubtful. Richt usually beats the shitty teams like vandy, UL Monroe, etc. anyone here could beat those teams with the talent UGA will continue to get. Richt loses to most of the good teams... UF, USC, BAMA, etc.

Hire a coach that will prepare better for the good teams. Simple as that.

Texas thought the same thing when they fired Mack Brown.

USC thought the same thing when they hired the drunk.

Given how much parity there is in modern college football there is a huge risk with every hire.

I think Richt walks at the end of the season. He doesn't get fired. He leaves football altogether and focuses on his speaking and missions career.

Problem is... 9-10 win seasons don't impress any fan of a top-tier program.

Bama, LSU, Auburn, and Florida fans wouldn't be okay with Richt's performance vs. expectations in the last 5 or so years.

It seems to me that most UGA fans are now on-board with firing richt, but it definitely took a LONG time for that to happen. I think before the florida game it was about 50/50 on keeping Richt. After last season I'd estimate about 80% wanted Richt to stay. For a while, I think there was a very risk-averse attitude. UGA fans didn't want to fire richt because they were scared the program would go the direction of Tennessee if they did that. I heard a lot of fans say they want to keep richt just to hold on to Eason. I think the general attitude was that UGA pretty close to the level of LSU/Bama/Auburn, etc. and if they keep richt around, eventually the ball will bounce their way and they will win the SEC/Natty...

Winning your first Natty in 50 something years is doing much worse?

Dont forget 1993

ETA: I wonder how it feels for Tennessee fans to know they are a prime example of a cautionary tale.

You keep Richt you can count on losing to UF more often than not. His record against the Gators is reason enough to can him. I'd feel the same way if the roles were reversed.

Dude in 2012 you lost to the worst Mizzou team in 10 years and Vandy, and then in 2013 you did it again

Really we should be saying, if you lose to Vandy, Kentucky, and UT in the same season you belong in the basement.
