Nope - UGA can provide "quality" professional help, counseling and education that he will not be able to obtain on his own. He has a better chance with the help of quality professionals that UGA will provide than some damn state paid social worker or juvenile counselor that he'd get on his own.

Once again, I never said to kick him off the team. You can take football away from him and allow him to earn his way back on the team which appears to be what is happening. We don't know how long that is going to be though.

I think Kirby is handling it like he should. Suspend him indefinitely until he fixes his issues. That's what a good coach should do. If Ledbetter doesn't want to do what's asked of him, he can transfer.

I really like how Kirby Smart has handled his first offseason. From problems like this to recruiting, he'a doing a great job. I'm anxious to see if he can put together a good product on the field because Georgia has been the east school I root for when not playing LSU ever since j experienced how awesome Athens and their fans are a few years ago.

You can do more than just take away playing time. He can remain on the team but have more restrictions than just no playing time.

I guarantee you he'll be under a lot of restrictions and if he finds his arse back on the team, he will have earned it. He will be educated and counselled thoroughly - every effort will be made to alter this kids decision making skills. He will either get on board with CKS of he will be gone, it's up to the kid.

In particular, he mentioned that he has to provide for himself and his family so it makes me wonder if he is self medicating
The kid has talent but its not a certainty that the kid is going to the league, plenty of players have this same mindset and I dont blame them but if he has to drink to evade stress, then I cant think of anything more stressful than balancing football responsibilities and school.

So a starter on the already thin D line gets a chance to stay on the team even after a second chance from a related charge just months ago but a 3 star freshman gets kicked off for a first offense?

Sounds about right. This kid was asleep at the wheel blocking traffic at Barrett Shoals and Lexington drive. It took the cops several attempts to wake him. Once they finally did the police report says Ledbetter stated "that he knows whats going in in the world now with cops and black people and he stated that he wanted know if he passed the test or not so that he could take his boys home. There was no one in the car with Mr. Ledbetter when I arrived at the scene."

I am sorry but this kid could have killed somebody. This was his second chance. There are taxis, uber other players to take him home. He is an idiot. If this kid sees the field again then Kirby is an idiot too. After Chad Clay got arrested the players got read the riot act, yet Ledbetter looks like he is headed for a 3rd chance.

This has everything to do with the fact he is an upperclassman starter on the Dline who is a player in the interior of the Dline who Kirby needs.

Edit: all for getting the kid help but IMO this is inconsistent treatment of player behavior. Wrong message from KS.

Clay is a bad influence who had 2 separate arrests for being a pos. You conveniently ignore his arrest for stealing.

Led is a good kid who needs real help for a real problem, and we are gonna give it to him. He isn't an upperclassmen and he isn't an interior dl, so quit acting like you know what's up.

Your one size all approach is stupid.

It is also my understanding that Clay was not following his punishment protocol given to him after his last run-in, and basically had no room for error. From all accounts, Ledbetter has been a solid student and has paid his penance otherwise.

Should? yes.

That's not always the reality though.

No. he didn't. Or he would have known Ledbetter's first offense was dropped. And he would have known Ledbetter was a sophomore and not an "Upper Classman".

He might have thought twice about talking about a Georgia kid getting a DUI because Georgia Tech has had an assistant basketball coach, a baseball player and another basketball player busted for the same thing. And the basketball player got a 5 game suspension in spite of it being his second suspension from the team. So......no. He didn't research...or think, before he posted.

So a Tech fan hears about a UGA player in trouble and proceeds to incoherently and inaccurately paint a picture of how KS is handling the situation poorly?

Sounds about right.

Pray tell. tell us about how Georgia Tech had a basketball player...Chris Bolden arrested for DUI. Then tell us how he had already been suspended by the team, and in spite of this being his second offense, Georgia Tech gave him a whopping 5 game suspension in basketball.

Since you think Ledbetter should not play for georgia again, how did you feel about Bolden coming back to play? Did you get mad about that? I'm sure you did. Probably got on an internet message board and called the GT administration a bunch of idiots for letting him come back.

Nope,

He was passed out, with the car in gear/drive and his foot slightly on the brake and he was drooling. They had to move a car in front of his to keep it from rolling.

Police said Ledbetter appeared to be asleep but was “breathing and drooling.”
The vehicle was in drive and his foot slightly on the brake pedal. Ledbetter did not wake up after numerous knocks on the window, yelling out for him to wake up and shaking the car, according to the report.
Four officers total and EMS arrived on scene and attempted to wake Ledbetter up, even turning on a siren.
After 20 minutes of being unable to get Ledbetter to respond, police eventually were able to open the door with a “lock jock.” Police after several more attempts woke up Ledbetter, who said he had not been sleeping.

“Yes sir, I’m home,” he said. Police told Ledbetter he wasn’t home. He told them he had been drinking downtown around 12-12:30 a.m. He said he had two Bud Light Platinum’s.

I'm going to refer to Ledbetter as 2Beers for the rest of his career.
