Mack will be very, very good for aTm in time. He's going to get pushed around just like every other freshman DT does until he learns how to play the position with technique. Raw ability isn't enough when going up against the maulers the anchor the middle in the SEC.

I wish we could pull the rant commentary regarding Mack pre Chavis leaving LSU. I remember it being along the lines of "come play for Chavis at DLU."

If he doesn't learn how to play the position he will be Anthony Johnson v. 1.5. They are very similar coming out of HS.

Every fanbase has idiots. I was never excited on having Mack potentially coming to LSU. Chavis and Brick wouldn't have been able to develop him anyway.

This is exactly why I'm saying he will be wasted.
Anthony Johnson was a good DT but never was used correctly. He knew how to play but his talents were wasted by Chavis.

You need to look at film of the Saints DL when Ogeron coached them.
I personally heard a former high level NFL DL rip Ogeron a new one over the poor technique of the Saints DL.
By mid-season you'll know the truth.

No. Just no. He is not a run stopper. He has too much speed and agility to be used in that way. His best use will be as a pass rusher.

Randle and Ball, both 6'1 Texans KILLED it for the Vikings back in the day. They were incredible together.

He will only turn out like Johnson if he's a lazy frick who doesn't want to put in the work to learn technique. If he's got the drive he could be a monster.

He has incredible speed. That's what makes Mack so special. He can plug AND pass rush. But 6'1 330 pound interior DLmen are pluggers. Take a guy like that and give him quickness, too - and you've got a fricking monster.

I don't get where the notion that Anthony Johnson was lazy comes from. He was not taught properly and was not played to his strengths.
Maybe in a 3-4 but not in Chavis' scheme. You seriously don't understand. It's a 4-3 defense with two-gap responsibility. It makes no sense. If Mack can turn into a Brockers, maybe he'll be successful, but Brockers was a 6'6 330lb monster. I don't remember Chavis being successful with short DTs.
