You guys are fricking idiots. The benefits of an interior DLmen having both a lot of mass and a low center of gravity has nothing to do with getting in the backfield. It has everything to do with being hard to move. Those tall OLmen can't get under them, and thus (assuming they are also big and strong, which Mack is) can't move them. Low man wins.

It's why everyone recruits other 5'9 DTs...oh they don't? Nm

There are virtually no 5'9 DTs with the needed mass and strength. There are a ton of 6'1 noses, which Mack is. He also might be the strongest true freshmen in the conference.

You obviously know nothing about football.

Being short and strong allows you to bullrush easily. The problem comes against the run when an OL just has to extend his arms and bend his knees and that short DL will not be able to hold his ground against the longer OL.

And Chavis runs a 4-3 scheme.

He'll play 1 tech and 3 tech for Chavis, depending on defensive formation. 4-3 defenses still have interior DL.

Mack will not be used as a nose guard unless in Mustang. He should be in a system that attacks the LOS and tries to penetrate. Coach Orgeron could've made him into a first round draft pick but he will be wasted.

Give it up, shorter DT can't be successful in college or the NFL. Just ask Aaron Donald

No one said that. It depends on the scheme they're used in and Mack won't be used correctly in Chavis' system.

Sean Payton ran Ogeron off after one season of Coaching Saints DL because Ogeron is not a good DL coach.

Ogeron lasted in the NFL long enough to drink a cup of coffee.

You'll find out when you see your DL get stalemated and doesn't have the technique to get penetration.

Care to elaborate on your emoticons or will you add nothing to the conversation?

I can't speak on his time with the Saints because I don't follow the NFL. I do know, however, the Ed Orgeron is the best defensive line coach in the country. He teaches technique at a superb level, his scheming is elite, his recruiting is elite, and he is an excellent motivator. Our d-line will be stout, sorry to disappoint.

It kills me that you think the right way to use a 6'1 330 pound interior DLmen is to get him to shoot gaps every play. Seriously. It's like you've never watched football. Go find clips of Jerry Ball. That's how Mack is going to play. If he keeps his weight under control and takes care of his body, he's going to be an almost unblockable plug in the interior run defense.
