That's almost as weak as you using Wiki as your source for the rules.

To the Easter Bunny.

I am aware of what Urban did at Utah. That is why I said SEC coach. And Tebow is the reason yall won the NC in his freshmen year. Yall would have lost to us as well as some other teams if it wouldn't have been for him coming in to get those short yardage carries. All i'm saying is i'm interested to see if he can come up with an offense that will be effective without once in a century players.

arrakis you are correct, I bow to you since you are a wizard of the interwebz

you can bad mouth me all you want....I don't give a rat frick

the way I interpret the rules and the way the officials officiating tonight interpret the rules are in agreement and that's all I care about

but not as weak as your deflections

after looking over your post history I see that you get off by making people look stupid for bitching about a football game

you've memorized the rulebook word for word and that makes you a pro when it comes to football yet you have prob never played a snap in your life....kinda hard to do that when you don't leave your computer cave

you have reaffirmed my thoughts of your douchebaggery

any chance you could make this say Auburn instead of Bama?

I tried editing it, but not only is it prevented(not surprised, I do the same to mine), but It's over 100 layers

If you can, it Doesn't have to be tonight or this week for that matter. I understand you are busy

By dictionary you mean the NCAA Rule book right?

You are a moron for arguing with him.

The refs had more than five minutes to figure this one out. They could have called the Supreme Court in that amount of time. They got it right whatever it was.

Caught or Recovered
ARTICLE 2. a. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered by any inbounds player, the ball continues in play.

Exceptions:
1. Rule 8-3-2-d-5 (Team A fumble on the try).
2. On fourth down before a change of team possession, when a Team A fumble is caught or recovered by a Team A player other than the fumbler, the ball is dead. If the catch or recovery is beyond the spot of the fumble, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble. If the catch or recovery is behind the spot of the fumble, the ball remains at the spot of the catch or recovery.
b. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered simultaneously by opposing players, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the team last in possession (Exception: Rule 7-2-2-a Exceptions).

That's the entire rule in question. It seems to me that the rules clearly mention both a fumble and backward pass as 2 separate conditions. If the rule about not advancing a fumble on 4th down was meant to include backward passes, it would have said "backward pass or fumble".

Also, the rules never define an incomplete backwards pass as a fumble, it becomes a loose ball.

Nicely, done RC. Conclusion is quite simple, a lateral or backward pass that hits the ground is simply not a fumble. Therefore the rules pertaining to fumbles only do not apply to lateral or backward passes.

Since no one ever gave an example of the rule,
Auburn vs UGA 05.

LINK

Auburn is given a touchdown which makes the score 34-30 before the attempt. The refs met and brought the ball back to the yard line it was fumbled since the player that lost the ball did not recover it. Auburn ran the clock out and kicked the field goal as time expired to win 31-30.
