I've given up hoping UT will ever be more than an annual speedbump for Bama. Nothing is certain in life but death, taxes, and anyone who draws them having a leg up in the West division standings.

Yes he is. He just needs his mentor, Brian Kelly, to recruit for the program for a few years, implement the same system Butch uses so there's no drop off. He also needs to leave each job within a few years before people see how bad he is without Kelly's help.

maybe because he's not that gtreat a coach? But in all honesty, he's lost one game this year to a ranked team. Yes, it was at home and yes they choked to lose the game, but if he's somehow able to win the east this year, all of this will me moot. But to answer your question simply, maybe Freeze is a better coach. hut if you want to really compare their first two years at the two schools, Butch went 11-13 in the regular season and Freeze went 13-11. It's kind of silly to say Butch has been a failure right now. Now, if he loses to Florida tomorrow and goes 6-6 again, then yeah there probably will be cause for concern

Freeze wins 13 games and is 2 games better in the brutal SEC West.

Butch at an all-time college football power in a weak SEC East wins 11 games in his first 2 years.

Freeze is obviously a better coach. I'm just wondering why the process is SO SLOW at UT right now. Top recruiting classes every year and still can't win a big game.

OM'S schedule was tons easier that first year. My lil' toe could've gotten eligible with OM/Freeze's first year.

Freeze has still done a fantastic job but tis true about your 1st yr schedule.

Okay. What about year 2? Freeze won 8 games and beat a top-6 LSU team.

Haven't you heard? We suck? I mean that IS what you want to hear, right? None of that systemic stuff, apples and oranges, lack of a pulse on OL or anything.

A high school girls basketball coach > Butch?

Is that what you are saying?

Butch also played road games at Oregon and at Oklahoma OOC, just saying. I think Freeze is a better coach but Butch still has a chance to turn things around this season. I'll reserve final judgment on how good he is until then

Why is it taking Butch so long to build a winner?

I don't need you to say that UT sucks. We can see that UT sucks.

What you should admit is that your coach is no better than your last coach. He's just a little less abrasive. That's the only difference.

Because we're still scheduling like it's 1999 and as tired as I am of saying it and I know you are of hearing it, we have had very real systemic problems. Our AD has been problematic and the lack of talent has been problematic. We've had consistent talent at WR but that's it -- we have been a shitshow at QB, OL and on D and those were inherited issued (though we are getting a bit better). You can win this conference that way,

I'm fairly well known for being honest around here but that's just not the case and any serious fan (though we have tons of 'homers' who aren't very serious) would say so. Truth is our rebuild has been monstrous on many levels.

NOW, I'm most certainly NOT happy with everything CBJ's done. I think he could learn a lot but he's in no way, shape, or form remotely similar to Dooley. Folks look to the W-L ratio but that is just a part of it. It's the hole we've been in. However, our teams are better and they don't play remotely similarly to Dooley's.

You might not like hearing that but it's true. Just consider, I watch more UT games than you and decide whether to give me the benefit of the doubt. IF you disagree that's fine (you'll find many UT fans that agree with you).

That said, I'm a Vol fan not a coach fan (minus maybe Neyland).

Central Arkansas (FCS), UTEP (3-9), Tulane (2-10), Auburn (3-9), Arkansas (4-8)...Mississippi State (8-5) was the only FBS team they beat with a winning record.

In Butch's first year he beat #4 South Carolina and was a play away from bowl eligibility in two games (Georgia and Vanderbilt).

In Butch's second year they went to a bowl game. UT is getting better, but they were a year behind.

You can't tell me that Dooley left the cupboard at UT more bare than Houston fricking Nutt did at OM.

The thing that killed Jones was that Dooley didn't recruit good linemen. He didn't have a single OL in his 2012 class. He only had 4 in his 2011 class and 4 in his 2010 class. That is 8 OL in 3 years. How the hell are you supposed to build any depth at the position like that?
