Lol at donkeys blasting the Alabama system for not wanting to spend money on something they themselves aren't willing to spend money on.
We're you even watching that story? They had their biggest donor ready to whip out his check book, they had former players from the NFL ready to whip out their checkbook, they had a group who already had $5 mil and we're ready to get much more if they could just get a pledge to not kill the program. And furthermore thd program was actually moving in thd right direction, they'd doubled their attendance in just one year. There was no need to kill UAB football.

"No it won't. Public will forget about it after today's games."
exactly. Nobody cared about uab football until it got cancelled. 6 months from now nobody will care it's gone.

This was pure politics by the BOT. It is the beginning of a move to kill the undergrad program at UAB. They want UAB to be a Graduate Satellite Program only. Bammer wants to increase undergrads on their campus and they don't want them going to UAB as undergrads. If the UAB undergraduate programs grows they see that as a challenge to their goal of getting to 40,000 + on campus in Tuscaloosa. Increased undergrads at UAT helps pay for all of that building that has occurred on the UAT campus. This is my opinion of what is really going on.
The truth will come out.

You are on a roll this morning. Knowing that Bama is playing for the SECCG and a playoff spot really has you going today.

You mean like the new facilities, on campus stadium, and annual $18 million subsidy that UAB fans have been demanding for years? Yeah that would all be cheap.

I dunno. This is so dirty, the state legislature has actually been forced to act. They are introducing legislation in the next session to separate UAB or change the representation on the bama BOT.
It is so painfully obvious to all that the bama BOT is intentionally fricking UAB, their hand is being forced.

This is disengenuous as well. Yes they asked what all would be needed, but that doesn't change the reality that UAB needs a new practice facility and other updated football facilities. The $44 million number doesn't even include an on campus stadium. I've been trying to tell UAB fans for years that an on campus stadium isn't the most important thing necessary for this program and have been told I'm an idiot for thinking that way.
The majority of UAB supporters wanted to hold back support because no stadium, hold back support because UAB is tied to the board of trustees, hold back support because they want to be a victim.
They got what they were asking for.

We lost to Bama so let's act like we give a shite about UAB!
it is pretty fricked up that my city lost its team though. Where were you Auburn folk the past 10 years? UAB has been dying for support.

What year did you become a UAB Tiger n Miami? Or should I say Blazer n Miami?

They shouldn't have been shut down, but they should have dropped to a lower division.
It shouldn't take threatening to shut the program down for boosters and former players to start donating.

It made for a nice story, but the numbers they were stating in that story aren't adding up to what UAB said it needs to keep the program going. And those are just one time donations to keep the program alive. Would they do it again next year?

The 47 million number was put up so the powers that be could have an excuse
there is no way in hell UAB booster or former players could have hit that number
I don't care who #freeuab thought was pulling out the checkbook
it's fricked up but it is what it is

Exactly. This has been going on for years. UAB could have hired Jimbo Fisher, the board blocked it. They had a donor wanting to build an indoor practice facility, the board blocked it. They had plans and money lined up for an on-campus stadium they could have filled up, the board blocked it.

How many times did Auburn play UAB in football?

How much were you willing to pay? How many games were you going to go to? If the answer is 0 then why do you care?
And doubled attendance? It's average attendance was 10k in 2013, so even if it doubled, 20k attendance for a team losing Millions per year isn't exactly making your case. Furthermore, if the team drops back to mediocrity then you're back to 10k per game. The boosters likely could not commit to spending millions per year for the next 20 years to support a program that nobody cares about. Literally nobody cares.

Thd 47 mil was not what they needed for one year, it's what they needed over 5 years.
