As I said, why not play upper tier teams in the ACC as close as they are to Columbia?

Because there is bad blood between the ACC and us ... we hate each other. We left their conference and told them to get fricked. It's far more bitter than A&M with the Big 12 and, were it not for a state law passed by SC's Congress, we would probably not even be playing Clemson every year.

We occasionally manage to schedule an OOC football game with the ACC ... but that's not the same as basketball. Basketball is their sacred cow and we violated their sacred basketball cow back in the late 60s and early 70s by kicking all of their asses ... brawls at games, law suits over their bullshite, etc.

I think maybe, if my memory serves me correctly, we've maybe played two series versus ACC men's teams (not counting Clemson) in 40+ years, during the regular season. One with UVA and one with Maryland. UNC and NC State refuse to play us in men's basketball unless it happens in a tourney. We've tried for many many years. We used to play Ga Tech every year until they joined the ACC ... it came to a screeching halt after that. Dave Odom begged Wake Forest to play us ... but Tobacco Road shot it down. I can't remember if Bill Foster got us a home and home game with Duke back in the late 70s, I remember him trying shortly after he left there and Coach K took over ... but I don't think it ever came to pass. I was overseas many of those years so maybe it happened, but if it did I don't remember it happening.
