Hernandez was already rotten by college. Sure Meyer could have done more but once people get to college they're already set in their ways.
That's kind of why he at least deserves to be connected with AH in some respects. Coaches recruit these kids for years. They get to know them and their families. Urban knew AH was a worthless thug when he accepted his signed LOI. He knew he was a worthless thug when he arrived on campus. He knew he was a worthless thug when he left for the NFL. Is he partly to blame for anything AH has done? Nope. His hands aren't completely clean either though. He enabled AH for several years by never making him subject to discipline or holding him accountable for anything he did.

Hernandez has spent as much time with Belichek as he did with Meyer. Hernandez is only 23, not 33. Anybody who has not improved themselves from 23 to 33 is either a loser at life or has some kind of medical condition.
This blaming Meyer garbage is asinine, and it is just a way for people to find a reason to dog on Meyer.
If Meyer wants to feel a sense of disappointment for not doing more for Hernandez, that is for him to decide - not the general public. Bill Parcels always said his biggest failure as a coach was not doing more for LT, you would hope that Meyer and Belichek would feel similar feelings when the think back on their time with Hernandez, but we shouldn't tear into them if they don't.

That's all true. I think Meyer has proven time and again he only cares about winning.

Unfortunately I'm not sure AH would have been affected by a suspension. Most kids by college are unaffected. They don't learn. They don't really change their character.

Sociopath is gonna sociopath.
However, Urbz had a team of felons. He definitely could've done more to give him consequences.

Hernandez is a grown man. He can choose to good or bad. He made his choice, but....

“I just received an email from a friend where there is an accusation of multiple failed drug tests by Hernandez covered up by University of Florida or the coaching staff.
well, okay then.

I wonder how Urbs' heart condition is coming along? Getting those kinda emails would induce heart palpitations in me.

I think Urban has been saying stuff that really isn't true for so long he no longer winces when he lies.

It all depends what he knew. If he knew he is in trouble. Something tells me when police came knocking 9 days later and he invoked right to counsel - Meyer and the school were in play.

So you CANNOT blame a coach, to whatever extent, when a player breaks bad, but when the player becomes a winning NFL player, citizen, father, man, etc., he CAN accept credit?

Blaming UM for what happened after he left UF is wrong, but this episode, Urbans actions and the information that continues to come out on Urban shows what a worthless POS he is.

On the face of it, blaming Urban for this is wrong...but he damn sure coattails on Tim Tebow, and he had even less to do with Tebow's character success than with Hernandez' character failure.

No they don't

No real love lost on Meyer...but some of you morons would rather believe internet rumors and message board keyboard jockeys than think for yourselves.
Again...the media is negative and its because we are in a negative society these days and bad news sells soap. Sports reporting used to be about the games and players...now any chance at dirty laundry is jumped at...facts be damned.
Our problem with athletes is a society thing, we are less of a close family society and its all about ME. We are going to implode college sports and we have only ourselves to blame.
No school can follow atheletes around the clock and watch them. Does/did UF punish student athletes just like other schools when violations were found? Of course. The main culprit in the downhill spiral of arrests in college sports is because the NCAA in its infinite wisdom did away with players dormitories....that was the best way for coaches to interact with players when they werent practicing. The smaller schools didnt like it cause they couldnt afford dorms for players on full rides. It was one of the worse moves by the NCAA.

Anyone bitching about Urban letting Hernandez on Florida's campus probably didn't even look to see of their school offered him

Get comfortable making justifications for old Urban. It's the price you pay for his success.
(and yes - I do the same thing. Fortunately, when I sold my soul, it came with crystals.) :)
