I've always contended that the reason you see so many Big East teams flame out early in the tournament (obviously you have a couple exceptions) is because the way their league is officiated all season long. They don't call it tight enough to prepare those guys for NCAA Tournament play.

I honestly think the refs need to let teams play more. They call such tick-tack fouls sometimes. It's just crazy and uncalled for.

IMO, defense is more teaching while offense is coaching
I think that's totally dependent on what you're running. I don't think 40 Minutes of Hell is perfect by any means offensively, but you still have to teach spacing, passing, and court vision (to a degree) when you're talking about fast breaks/transition.

I agree. I should have explained myself better. Defense and offense both call for teaching and coaching, but defense is more teaching than coaching and offense is vice versa.

Things that infuriate me with CBB officiating:
- The complete lack of over the back calls. I can't tell you the last time I saw more then one in a game. I think this goes along with players lacking fundamentals and refs adjusting to that.
- The inconsistency of the block/charge call. There was a point last season I almost wished Kentucky wouldn't even attempt a charge because they were getting nailed with a blocking foul almost every damn time. It was insane because there were some legit charges in there.

It's the "let's dribble it around the key for 30 seconds of the shot clock looking completely lost and then either turn it over or put up an airball as the clock expires" offense.
We used to call it the MELVIN WATKINS offense.

God yes I agree.
This is rampant everywhere. Nearly negates the concept of blocking out.
I think the damn circle is absolutely dumb and annoying.
The thing is this all boils down to the lack of fundamental coaching in high schools/AAU.

They're so busy looking at the damn circle that they're not paying attention to the offensive player dropping his shoulder and plowing over a guy.

That may be one of the most neglected things. It's crazy how watching CBB games today that you can see refs that have no idea what's going on. They call fouls completely out of position.

Actually we do. Obviously he isnt the best coach out there but he is a great fit for LSU. The fans like him. He should recruit well in-state. We will win a few games and we should put more fans in the seats. He is from a Dale Brown mold. Great hire for us!

The firing of Avery Johnson proves what is exactly wrong with the NBA.

We seem to like him much better than TJ. Everyone seems quite impressed with the 2013 class he has put together. Just got to hope that everyone who signs makes it to campus.
For his offense, it varies based on personnel. It's a high-tempo offense designed to get guys open on the perimeter to open the post game. With Hickey and O'Byrant in, we do quite well in putting up point. We're very aggressive on defense (lead SEC in steals), so it leads to a lot of fast break points. Because of our lack of size, our quick guards who can shoot well help compensate for the lack of points in the paint.
Critiques are that Jones seems to like feeding O'Byrant the ball frequently, which has led to him trying to do much against double and triple teams (leading some forced shots and TOs). We're also a little too reliant on 3 ball. We can shoot the 3 pretty well, but if we're off its bad.
I'm no basketball expert, but that's just my take.

Huge miss for MSU. Kid is outstanding.

Sounds like maybe O'Bryant needs to learn to pass the ball back out after sucking in the defense.

He has been doing it recently, but his first instinct is to work his way to basket. It's something that would not be a big of a deal if we had another legit post in the game with him. Our next best forward is 6-5.

That has to suck horribly. In better shape than MSU though.
