I'd agree with you IF Florida moved to cancel and reschedule the game on Tuesday or hell even yesterday.

As of this morning they were mocking LSU fans saying the hurricane wasn't even going to hit them and we were "crazy" and "didn't get it" for even questioning why there was no backup plan.

Florida pulled this for "safety reasons" at the last second because they only wanted a home game (and the money) or cancellation.

Now because of that, they are asking LSU to give up a home game? Please.

So logically LSU should forego over $6M to appease Florida further. Yeah, ok

How terribly insensitive for Florida to suggest the Baton Rouge area lose out on that much needed economic boost when Baton Rouge is recovering from the worst national disaster since Hurricane Sandy. Florida's selfishness clearly has no limit.

So in the past LSU

Moved a home game to Arizona St because of a storm
Moved a game from Sat to a Mon with Tenn because of storm
Moved a game from USCe to LSU because of storm

and some how LSU doesn't respect or know how to deal with these situations? There was plenty of time and information to take care of people and have the game played. Florida and the SEC have screwed this up. The state of Florida was taking the correct actions well before today. The University of Florida had their head up their arse..

This, this. great post.

I know LSU offered planes, hotels, etc. and here's to them for that. But,
Could anyone offer up a guarantee that the OT who is from Daytona that his family will be ok?
That their house would be ok?
That nobody in players or coaches families would have adequate medical care if injured?
That after players landed back in G'ville Roads would be open to get to the hospital in Jacksonville to see their dad that was injured?
Florida player checks on his family Sat morning from BTR and is told they lost everything, that his apartment is a pile of rubble and he has nowhere to stay sat night or his family is now homeless. Is he gonna feel like playing?

I know people don't see things that way but the most irresponsible thing Florida could have done was go play a football game. Foley absolutely made the right call.
When this is said and done there is gonna be loss of life in florida along with property. I wouldn't want to be in Baton Rouge knowing shite had gone down back home. I'd want wanna be there checking on things and helping clean up and not trying to play football.
Now, Florida should have tentatively agreed to play Monday though and take a wait and see approach.

So you think that 48 hours after a Cat 4 or 5 storm rolls through, travel/power will be available to play a football game? Gainesville will not be the only place that this storm has an impact on. I would think emergency personnel will be more tied up along the East coast.

I think it would be prudent to wait and see. If there are issues then cancel the game.. otherwise, play.

LSU did nothing wrong. Why cancel a rent a win and the revenue associated with a home game to accommodate Florida? They each play 1 less game, who cares.

No one could guarantee that regardless of where the game was played. No one guaranteed it to LSU in 06 or USCe last year. This is a shitty ordeal these people are going thru, but it's an event with a clear precedent that has now been broken.

It was ultimately the right call -- but it should have been made days ago when everyone saw what was coming.

As has already been stated, it's really selfish on Florida's part to demand LSU cancel a home game when Baton Rouge is recovering from a catastrophic natural disaster. A single LSU home game pumps millions of dollars into the local economy, and it desperately needs it right now.

Interesting. I seem to remember LSU traveling to Tempe, Arizona, in 2005 for a "home" game and pulled out a win.

What about the home game revenue for LSU?

Is UF going to split the revenue to cover that?

Simple, UF is offering to play on 11/19. And before you moan about LSU having to buy out the USA game, the SEC has already offered to pay the buy out. Never mind UF is willing to pay the buyout for their patsy game that weekend. UF most likely didn't want their players to have to worry about family and friends back home and have to play a football game. We've all seen those situations, the players are rarely into the game.

It was the right call not to have the game this weekend and LSU is coming off as extremely inflexible regarding the scheduling in a tough situation.
there is already a precedent for something like this.

There is precedent for this. There have been similar situations in the past(some worse). And in every situation the parties involved managed to move the game to another location. LSU was flexible and was willing to play this game anywhere. Florida was not. They stalled until there was no other choice but to cancel. A decision to move to another venue should have been made on Tuesday. This is not a safety issue. Spinning this as a cancellation out of concern for the well being of the people involved is flat out disingenuous.

They'll respond to this citing the SEC insurance policy making LSU whole. The truth is that policy doesn't even make the athletic dept whole for the home game, much less the ancillary businesses in BR that would lose out.

Everyone needs to chill out. It's just a cancelled game. These things happen.

It's really not that big of a deal. No amount of bitching by LSU is gonna change this. I get the frustrations but they are not even in our division.

We'll either reschedule or just leave cancelled. Either way we'll be fine.

This move was solely based on giving UF the best chance of winning the East. Nothing more.

Did Miami and FSU cancel?
