The Corps members wearing uniforms to the game are fairly new, there used to not be a Corps block seating up until the mid-90s I believe

Que?

Uniforms to the games are not a new thing, we certainly were required to wear them to games when I was there and looking back at old pictures.. they were in olden times also.

Corps block is indeed new.

Virginia Tech is the other major university with a full time Corps of Cadets.

Why do they have normal cheers, cheerleaders, etc?

Corps Block started with the Big 12. It was either my freshman year (1996 season) or sophomore year (1997 season). It was NOT popular amongst the cadets.

Virginia Tech first admitted women in 1921. Their Corps went to only 2 year compulsory in 1932 and corps membership became voluntary starting in 1964.

A&M admitted women full time starting in 1963 and corps membership became voluntary for men in 1965.

I think the reason they have normal(?) cheers and cheerleaders is because they have a 40 year headstart on letting women into the university and started down the slope of not being completely military starting in 1932.
