I read recently that UGA is arguing for the conference to regulate how much schools can give out, which is the most typical UGA shite ever.

I agree. If the NCAA eventually just let's school spend whatever they deem is necessary, you're going to see about 6 or 7 schools going forward with ANY hope whatsoever of winning a title. It will basically just be an all out bidding war.

I mean if the ncaa is hellbent on allowing athletes to get this "extra" money, it makes sense that there should at least be some sort of level playing field (as much as possible anyway) in regards to it.

The limiting factor is that it applies to all athletes, and I think they have to be able to explain why they're offering that amount. It probably doesn't have to be a good explanation. I'd love to see UT, MSU, and AU's calculations on this.

Regardless, the UGA model:

Be cheap/put self at competitive disadvantage
Argue that everyone else should do it UGA's way
Get laughed at by everyone else
Eventually catch up

Rinse, repeat

But we never catch up. By the time we decide we have to get in on the "extra scholarship $$" business we'll see nothing but smoldering camp fires. The AU/ Bama/ UT's will be on to the next "new thing".

One thing you can bet your arse on- you'll never see UGA take the lead on anything new and dynamic. Especially if it has any hint of trying our best to win.

In the case of State, traveling distances were factored in to nearest metropolitan area. It's no secret that Starkville is a rural town and I love it because of that. But it is also a 2+ hour drive to Jackson, Memphis, etc etc.

well those recruitment classes are obviously going to fill up very very quickly, telling the rest of the NCAA schools that actually care about competing that by next season they will all be doing the exact same thing.

Who knows, maybe this will be incentive for kids to stop getting in trouble so much and getting kicked off teams,, (I'm sure the tooth fairy and santa claus agree).

Ole Miss will now recalculate to arrive at $5,127.

You don't have to pay more when people actually want to go to your school. Paying more is for the desperate.

Absolutely agree with this...there's no way the cost of attendance
@ Auburn or UT is almost DOUBLE that of A&M...it's a stupid and screwy formula used to figure out the dollar amount...I don't see this ending anywhere but a courtroom.

Guess Alabama is paying them off the books enough already
Wrong. Actually the players voted to not receive the funds....seems that it would put them in a higher tax bracket,so....

At UGA, any in-state kids that maintains a 3.0 in their basketweaving major will already get alot of this stuff paid for by HOPE lottery scholarship, and if the kids are from poor families, they get Pell Grants that amount to thousands of dollars.

Their food is also free.

So maybe that's why UGA isn't ponying up alot in this new scholarship money?

Anyone know about how many scholarship athletes are at a typical SEC school? Should be about the same across the conference. Curious about the cost implications of this.

Can you point out where he bragged? He linked an article to something new in college football that most should find interesting. He also bolded all the SEC teams on the list.

Are you so insecure that you misconstrued that as bragging? Or are you just that fricking stupid? Looks like you're both.
