Starting this fall, the nation's top athletics programs will be able to cover the full cost of players' scholarships, thanks to an NCAA rule passed in January allowing them to do so.
Prior to the passing of the rule, colleges were only able to cover the cost of tuition, fees, room and board, and books.
With the new rule in place, 15 schools will offer over $4,000 per year in additional assistance, with five schools offering over $5,000 annually, according to a report from The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Of those 15 schools, the SEC and Big 12 both had six teams on the list, with two from the Big Ten, one from the ACC, and none from the Pac-12.
Here's a complete list of the schools that will pay more than $4,000 per year, topped by the Tennessee Volunteers.
The SEC with 3 in the top 5 - 4 in the top 10 - and 6 in the top 15.
1. Tennessee: $5,666
2. Auburn: $5,586
3. Louisville: $5,202
4. Mississippi State: $5,126
5. Texas Tech: $5,100
6. Penn State: $4,788
7. TCU: $4,700
8. Oklahoma: $4,614
9. Oklahoma State: $4,560
10. Ole Miss: $4,500
11. Wisconsin: $4,316
12. Texas: $4,310
13. South Carolina: $4,151
14. Kansas State: $4,112
15. Arkansas: $4,002

For UT, that number averaged out over roughly 300 days a year comes up to something like less than $20 a day or around $140 per week. The shift is happening.

A&M is only doing 2,700. That seems low. Is this for all atheltes or just football? I will say cost of living in CS is dirt cheap though.

Seems like this should help with recruiting being on this list.

If not available to all scholarship athletes, wouldn't this be a Title IX problem?

Unfortunately, the article doesn't go into a ton of detail. I'm trying to do some digging right now.

Yep, the semi-pro league is evolving as expected. There will always be other factors like playing time/competition, facilities, championship potential, etc. but at some point with most of those factors pretty equal it would boil down to players going to the highest bidder. Teams like Tennessee have no choice but to pay more since their in-state recruiting is insufficient. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

UGA will enter this list sometime around 2030.

Scott Stricklin, State's AD, said this will be offered to every student athlete, regardless of sport.

Our homestate isn't as rich as GA,FL,TX or even AL (although it's getting close) For that reason it doesn't hurt my feelings to see TN at the top of the list.

Ole Miss will now recalculate to arrive at $5,127.

I read recently that UGA is arguing for the conference to regulate how much schools can give out, which is the most typical UGA shite ever.
