Offensive line is the problem. The rest of the position groups are at least average and many are very solid.

Not sure if serious.

Tenn defense gave up 27 points, over 300 yards passing, and 150 yards rushing.

Is this now considered a good sign for the Vol's defense???

Would Uga, lsu, bama, or uf leave their band behind at Oregon? Possibly, but I doubt it

Yea, I mean, I do have to say that most of these "positive takeaways" were already pre-built in to this game.

Tennessee was never really in the game past the 1st quarter. Tennessee was beaten handily in all the stat categories. Tennessee lost the game by 3+ TDs.

The positives are they competed for 60 minutes and they appeared, outside of OL, to not be totally outclassed by OU.

But............if this was a trip to #4 UGA or #4 LSU or #4 Alabama and the game went that way would we be having this same conversation? It just seems a little strange to be SO over the top excited about losing by 3+ TDs in Butch's 2nd year. I get all the young guys, and I get OU is really good, but the positive vibes about this seem kind of much.

Alabama took the band to Penn State, Dallas, UCLA, Oklahoma, etc in the past 20 years.

I honestly can't remember the last trip we didn't take the band, though I remember there was one. Maybe Duke a few years ago?

Tennessee looked improved over last years team but still made mistakes. The 100 yard int return was a punch in the nads. There was the bad call on the fumble they ruled not a fumble. It should have been Tennessee ball but OU got to keep it. That led to 7.

UT needs to clean it up.

Ok, yall are serious.

Great smothering defense Vols. That defense is elite and improved. Holding a passer to less than 500 yards passing is huge and holding a team to only 34 points is much better than expected. Defense is stacked!

Moral victory= we will take it.

I posted this in an earlier thread and I think it's pretty relevant.

For those of us who have followed Tennessee closely over the past 5 years, we saw things in last nights game that we haven't seen in years. A defense actually worth a damn who were put in tough situations a lot and held OU to some field goals when they should've had touchdowns. They didn't quit even when we were down in the fourth quarter, and we had a lot of big hits. Our offense showed some glimpses, Hurd had 97 yards, but play calling held us back in a lot of instances. We need to improve on play calling, and our receivers need to make more tough catches. But all in all it's just about what we expected to happen against one of the best front sevens in the country starting 2 true freshmen on the same side of the line. And our punter sucks balls. Wolsey looked decent until he got a concussion. Croom needs to step up big time he's been disappointing thus far. Malone and north and pig looked pretty good.

We'll be alright. The east has some crappy defenses this year.

I would agree that Tennessee definitely played tougher than they have in recent years.

Every Alabama-Tennessee game the last 5-6 years (outside of the Kiffin year) had a moment in the 2nd or 3rd qtr where it was clear TN just decided the game was over and we steamrolled.

Didn't have one of those against OU, just got beat by a better, bigger, faster, stronger team.

I think UT showed signs of life, which is good. However, UT football should never be proud of a 24 point loss....ever. UT fans attempting to make it some sort of moral victory is sad and reminds me of Bama fans doing the same during Shula's era. Setting the bar low like that only sets you up for failure in the long run.

Not rolling over and dying isn't an indication of "We are on our way back." UT fans are so hungry that reality is just thrown out the door. The reaction by Vol fans to the "OU Stomped UT" headline is proof of that.

I don't understand why everyone says this wasn't a game after the first quarter. We were driving down the field in the fourth quarter about to score to put us within a touchdown and a field goal when we threw a pick 6 in the end zone that sealed the deal.

Did some of y'all even watch the game?

To get within one score? You were down 27-10, you would have gotten within 10 points, not one score.

Did you even watch the game?

Are you kidding me? When your team has been rolling over for 5 years and now we finally show signs of a hard nosed punch in the mouth attitude even though we're losing on the road isn't a good sign of things to come? Smh

Tennessee was down

13-0 after 1
20-7 after 2
27-10 after 3
27-10 at time of pick 6
34-10 after 4

They didn't get their doors blown off but lets not act like this was some sort of tit for tat battle in which TN was about to come all the way back before a wild pick 6.

My bad I meant 2 scores. A touchdown and a field goal. Not exactly insurmountable considering we had just had a 90 yard drive. I'm gonna edit my post. Don't freak out

Trust me, we remember the feeling of rolling over for years (well, not really, we were bad but we still didn't get blasted very often). And while I'd point to signs from that game that were encouraging, no I wouldn't be pumping my first and running around excited.

Saban's first year we lost to UGA (finished #3 in America) and LSU (future national champs) in the last 2 minutes of the game. I don't remember many high fives on the way out of the stadium or talk about how far we'd come.

Not freaking out at all, but like I said, the game was comfortable for Oklahoma throughout.

True. Right now butch is dominating every position except ol. Could be a big problem as nobody in the 2013-14 classes are really sec caliber on the ol

Our 2015 OL class right now looks damn good. Robertson from the '14 class will be very good. If Coleman Thomas pans out, we should be alright.
