The ESPN documentaries are a neat idea, but they're really not done that well, imo. Much of the information in them is just plain wrong.
The 30 For 30 series has been great on the whole, but it's astounding how terrible all of the college football-focused ones have been. Roll Tide/War Eagle, The U, Ghosts of Ole Miss (which was horrendous), Brian and the Boz, and Pony Excess -- at least in my opinion -- have all been huge whiffs on otherwise interesting topics.
Like I said in any earlier post, they dumbed down the Iron Bowl to the lowest common denominator and acted like the rivalry began in 2010. With The U, they acted like Miami was this anomaly when in actuality all of the major football programs in Florida experienced a phenomenal upswing in the 1980s and 90s when talent started staying home (FSU and Florida were both afterthoughts and became perennial top 10 teams by the early 90s). Ghosts of Ole Miss should've never happened (I still have no idea why Wright Thompson tried to intertwine the stories of James Meredith and the 1962 NC team). With Brian And The Boz, they just let Brian Bosworth tell his own story and paint it as some redemption piece (he and his son did terrible acting jobs in the completely staged storage room scenes).
30 For 30 has done some good things and has churned out some really powerful documentaries, but they've had a ton of misses that tend to get overlooked by comparison IMO.

ESPN and Wright Thompson should be ashamed of themselves. They dumbed a century-old rivalry down to Updyke, Finebaum and Cam.
Look AT it this way. The key demographic for any show is males 18-40 years old and they figure most of those people.want to hear about some recent shite. Like less than 10 years old shite.
ESPN is wrong but ya know, ratings is all they care about.

I really have to disagree with you on this one. The doc was all about the change in culture at The U and the brand Miami football became.
Most of it took place in the 80s so that automatically disqualifies UF. FSU was a normal program. Nothing special.
The thug culture at Miami was the story. It was a great 30 for 30.

Agreed.
I thought that was a stupid thing to do. So many great moments, players, and coaches in that rivalry and you had to narrow the focus down the lowest common denominator of society.

Who cares what the haters think? It hasn't stopped Alabama from dominating college football for the last 6-7 years.
Hell, even Auburn despite their radical inconsistency has still managed more success than most programs.

Watching consecutive documentary's on ESPN about Central of Tuscaloosa High School and Rush Prost. I am sure Roll Tide/War Eagle is somewhere on the schedule. I am not sure if this is a intentional effort by the Network to put the state of Alabama in a bad light, but the rest of the country has to be shaking their heads.
I wonder if all the Scientologists enjoyed Going Clear?

Seems like they did their best to not mention Arkansas. I noticed this with the one about the Pony Express, which also contained some big errors. I don't think the one on Archie Manning even mentioned his 1970 win over #3 Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl, which may have been his biggest in college. I couldn't even make it through the one on our '94 national title team, because it just all seemed so poorly done.

Worst documentary ever, and I say that as someone who doesn't care about either team.

Maybe the best post by an Arkansas fan ever.
