Good for the Aubies. I know a lot of people think "it's just a tree", " throwing toilet paper at trees is stupid", etc but it's a tradition so let them have it. I mean if we go through every tradition at each of our schools, I'm sure there would be some ridicule too. The whole thing of some nut case from a rival school "killing" the tradition because he couldn't handle the fact that his team lost, is much more ridiculous than toilet papering a tree. Traditions are what make college football so much more interesting than the pro game, visiting a rival's campus & seeing some of their traditions has always been one of the things I love about road games. I'll probably watch it for the sake of SEC nostalgia

And it was so much more than just trees. It was a gathering place after the game for fans to come together and all celebrate the win. It was a sense of community. My grandfather rolled those trees with my mom and aunt, and I would have loved to have been able to take my now 11 month old and told him this is where his great grandfather(who played baseball there and was roomates with Shug Jordan for a time), grandmother and father rolled the same trees after we won a game.

Is it just throwing toilet paper in trees? Sure, but it's also much more than that. It's a shame that piece of history is going to be taken away.

So what you're telling me is they are going to mummify it??

Get it because it's dead and they are wrapping toilet paper around it.

The typical responses of the bama fans in this thread (for the most part) confirm the national belief that Harvey Updyke IS, indeed, the very face of the Alabama fan base...and I believe they embrace that. Good for yall

What is sad is that they complain about this but its because of their fans that this thread was started.

There have been a few jackhole LSU fans in this thread, but by in large this thread has proven why most people consider Bama fans some of the worst.
It's sad to see this tradition be killed.
I'm not an Auburn fan, but even I know it's much bigger than just a couple trees.

ETA: Not responding to the OP in particular, but the thread in general

Gotcha so. The few LSU fans are not representative of the whole body but a few Bama fans sums up everyone. You have to love LSU fans

Harvey Updyke + Teabagger = your whole fanbase is a bunch of redneck white trash gumps with no class.

I apologize for relating it as a math problem. If any of you gumps need me to explain it to you, don't hesitate to ask.

Almost Bama fan that posted in this thread, were basically talking like were glad what that idiot Updyke did. And I know it isn't indicative of the fanbase, but y'all have such large numbers like that, yea it does say why so many people think y'all are the worst

Should we show up with signs?

Will there be any Bama fans there with signs?

Jeez. I hadn't seen any updated pictures of the trees. Updyke killed the shite out of them.

So, what happened with the idea of full oak tree transplants in the same location? I was really, really looking forward to seeing that project attempted, since many in horticulture say it's almost impossible with any form of adult oak tree...

You could rewrite horticulture books if you could successfully transplant mature Live Oaks @ Auburn's latitude(which is pretty far north for Live Oaks anyway)...

They do it on LSU's campus all the time. They're younger oaks, but they're fairly developed.

Have you ever been to LSU's campus? It's nothing but oaks.

I don't really feel like I should have to explain the logistical differences of this in depth...

This is the naturally-occurring Live-Oak range in the US. There's a reason the trees in Auburn were so small for their age...
