As much as I despise Auburn.. it is really sad when a tradition has to die in such a tragic way. Without tradition, college football would be meaningless.

Good for the Aubies. I know a lot of people think "it's just a tree", " throwing toilet paper at trees is stupid", etc but it's a tradition so let them have it. I mean if we go through every tradition at each of our schools, I'm sure there would be some ridicule too. The whole thing of some nut case from a rival school "killing" the tradition because he couldn't handle the fact that his team lost, is much more ridiculous than toilet papering a tree. Traditions are what make college football so much more interesting than the pro game, visiting a rival's campus & seeing some of their traditions has always been one of the things I love about road games. I'll probably watch it for the sake of SEC nostalgia

if the rolling tradition was such a special thing.... BRING IN NEW DAMN TREES!!!!

You don't see UGA fans or LSU fans wail and cry when Uga or Mike die.... because they get NEW ONES!! This is not rocket science guys, hell it's agriculture.... and you're an Agricultural school!

The typical responses of the bama fans in this thread (for the most part) confirm the national belief that Harvey Updyke IS, indeed, the very face of the Alabama fan base...and I believe they embrace that.

Sad, but true. But it is the 90% of Bama fan that give the other 10% a bad name. Updyke U....

Couldn't Auburn pull those trees up, dig up an 8,000 cu ft area of the earth that had been poisoned, bring in new earth, new trees (already matured), and call it a day?

That is the plan, will cost a fortune because we have to remove the soil beneath the road. Will be 5 or 6 years before we can roll the new trees. The trees will be pulled up in about a month.

No shite dude! I know for a fact you can get 2 large live oaks similar to the stumps there now and have them planted for under $15,000.. I know they can find 2 live oaks that (honestly look healthier anyways as the ones pre-poisoned were thin in the center) someone would gladly donate and all the cost is for transportation. But hell, if the space shuttle can go thru downtown LA, I think AU can handle 2 large live oak trees!

Would officially cement him in place as the worst AD ever. But I'm pretty sure that's a call over his head.

It's amazing LSU and UGA fans are able to overcome the death of their mascots but Auburn can't get over the death of a few trees among their countless mascots/traditions, etc.

Your dumbass would be singing a different tune if your mascot was killed by a deranged Auburn, bama, Ole Miss whatever fan.
