ESPN is dead. I turned on my cable only because of college football. Say what you will about the NFL network but it is what ESPN should be. Highlights and stories about great moments in sports.

Watching ESPN is terrible. Commenting on Kaep, getting involved with Obama and Cuba, all women sideline reporters, etc. I dont care if they have women in sports but they do it just to be equitable as a front. I miss the days of being able to tune in at anytime and get highlights with no meat on the bone. Its not necessary.

Im tired of ESPN meddling in affairs outside of sports and I dont give a damn about their opinions outside of that subject. Treatment of races, sex, etc. save that shite.

Damn straight Phil. I remember the days when you could watch the World Strong Man Competition with a guy lifting a redwood log and then rolling a 700 lb round stone onto a pillar. That was cool shite to watch when the run of the mill sports were out of season or on break. I used to watch people flying off of cliffs with a snowboard before there even was half pipes just to see how far and how much air they got. Now they got Jemele Hill and Kate Fagan and Steven A. Smiff talking all of their racial poor me bullshite. Show me sports if you are a sports channel. Many posters already said it, but it can't be said enough. If I wanted politics, I'd go onto my tablet or watch news channels for that shite.

Average American doesn't relate to the left wing crowd, which is what they cater to. Ditch that audience in favor of the audience that made them what they are and they'll start to get viewers back.

Holy shite you fricking triggered gigantic vagina ... lulz.

All of that bullshite rant and you still don't get it - you're still too fricking ignorant to understand.

LOL!

I'll get back to you ... company shows-up unexpectedly tonight and schooling your adolescent arse is going to have to wait.

But Jesus ... all of that, really? My good gosh I have to remember whatever it was that triggered you and ... well, I'll make sure to yank your chain more often in the future.

In the meantime go back and reread your bullshite ... maybe you'll see your errors for yourself before I have a chance to come back and point them out to you.

Reread the entire thread dumbass ... lulz. And thanks for the belly laugh.

I'll be back you little bitch.

frick you old man. Whatever bullshite you respond with can't beat the goddamn websites of the cable providers themselves.

Or do I have to write it all in crayon?

What is fricked up about your bullshite politics angle is it could actually be supported if your IQ was higher than the number of years you have lived.

You see, Fox Sports One did beat ESPN in ratings for a whole week recently:

LINK

Which would be a fact that would support your argument of some sort of backlash to ESPN's "liberal agenda" because ratings are a good indicator of popularity.

Instead you make a stand on the fact that they are losing subscribers when that number is obviously tied to a much larger market shift due to cord cutting and IP streaming services. Then you make up some easily disprovable theory that the SEC Network (which makes most of its money on subscribers in the SEC) exists to force people to get a sports tier with ESPN U and ESPN Classic like someone who tried to say that Iraq was behind 9-11. Finally you have the gall to call me out when I try to put forth the correct information.

So you can go frick yourself. I am not going to waste time correcting your many mental errors when the grim reaper is about to do that for us all sooner or later.

I'm pretty sure you have this backwards. There's a lot not to like about ESPN (and as another pointed out, MTV). But that isn't why ESPN or MTV are losing subscribers. It really isn't that difficult to understand. But carry on; you do you.

As an aside, you really do have to appreciate his rant. It rivaled your best efforts.

No, they will not. The viewers who have dropped ESPN have dropped cable service because a) their cable service was expensive relative to alternatives and b) they never gave a damn about sports to start with. There is no reason, at least not sports-related, for them to come back. This board is about the worst possible place to get a read on what the general public feels about sports and/or ESPN. Hell, we all love sports or we wouldn't be here, right? There are a WHOLE LOT of people who don't care about sports AT ALL. SOME of those people are finding alternatives to cable, and they will not be back. The big question for the SEC is what does this all mean when the SECN contract expires? I suspect we'll end up paying way more than we're happy with for the privilege of watching all SEC games.

Would that be about the time they made the decision to show two men licking cake off each other during the NFL draft?
I've never cared who chose who as their partner but I don't recall even seeing a guy and girl doing that during the draft. Did they think this would increase viewership? If so I think they are out of touch with the sports audience.
ESPN in general has gone down hill to me.

Oh yeah, if we had to pay full price for the current ESPNs without the market subsidy it might be like $900 a year (and they would make you commit a year to avoid people just doing it during football season). Right now they play along with streaming options as a balance to their primary business model, but make no mistake that ESPN was king of the cable era and has the second most to lose when it ends (to the cable providers themselves).

Plus college football might contract to survive as well on the other side of the rope. I could see eventually a superconferece being formed, or at least conferences going together into rights deals to drive up the price through scarcity of product. We even might see them try to go over the top themselves to consumers without the middle man, but that seems unlikely in the short term. The PAC tried it and it was a disaster pretty much.

My company just left and now my device is updating to Nougat plus I'm drunk and tired.

You're close ... we're really not that far apart. Let's try to solve this tomorrow you little Millennial bitch. I'll be your mentor and your Daddy all rolled up into one ... at least for a little while tomorrow.

Damn, I really am tired tonight though.

I cancelled sling tv and their ESPN channels because of: commercials. I'm not sitting through 250 commercials to watch a football game

I'm one of the cord cutters that got tired of escalating costs.
I like to read. I like the internet. I get several major channels with my digital antenna pointed toward the broadcast towers. The channels are free and really super clear.
I've got a ROKU with curiosity stream and just for football season sling. Love to have a reason to visit my friends that have cable on the weekends if necessary.
I do not need 24/7 of 300 channels.

Cable and satellite have overpriced themselves for me. I'm not broke but don't like to be robbed once a month.
Hell I didn't even know Gunsmoke had Burt Reynolds on it for a while

This has been a fun thread to read.

That's the funny thing I've found about getting rid of cable. It's not that you necessarily watch less TV, you just appreciate the weird shite you actually get on the free channels more

Best thing is it's free and the digital looks great. I love free TV.
