Aggy logic: he developed the good players and the bad ones are inhereted!

Even though that is 180 from the truth

Exactly, the only reason Sumlin has been successful at all is because he inherited a senior laden O line and Manziel. He had zero to do with those players being at A&M, and under his "development" they went from 10-2 to 8-4 with an easy schedule.

He helped develop Moore and Joekel, both first team All-Americans.

He receives most the credit for developing Matthews, who will be a two time All-American.

He receives all the credit for developing JFF and Evans.

(He deserves credit for the development of Keenum, Patrick Edwards, AD, Jason White, Sam Bradford, Drew Brees, etc.)

He played like 12 kids he signed in 2013 on this year's defense. He did it because Sherman left him with dogshit.

Sumlin apologizes that a unit littered with true freshman in the two-deep struggled mightily. He hopes you understand he plans to continue developing these kids, and that typically players aren't fully developed 9 months after hitting campus.

but I also think a top 5 finish is something an elite coach does

He needed a lot of teams to lose to finish in the top 5.

Is that what we are arguing? If Sumlin is elite or not?

one of your fellow Ags just said he was and if you're paid that kind of money you should be an elite coach. I don't think he is right now, could be eventually but has to have more skins on the wall IMO

I think it's well spent. We'll go 8-4 next year, but in 2015 TAMU will contend.

I think it is reactionary and damn sure not worth someone that is not contending for the NATIONAL TITLE every single year.

This is your response and yet you flame Arkansas constantly.

If sumlin keeps "developing" like he did this year it wont be long before aggy is under .500 and sumlin "develops" a job opening in college station

You just went full aggytard. Joeckel was a preseason all- American before Sumlin even coached a game at A&M.

I mean regardless of the subjective definition of "elite", I think our administration made a good decision. He's only going to be making half a million more than Briles. We have the money, so I don't get why we shouldn't have paid him, otherwise we would have lost him.

Why isn't it worth it? What price barrier did we cross to make it suddenly not worth it?

Look, his on-field production obviously doesn't deserve a $5M salary.

And if a coach's salary was predicted exclusively upon his his record the first two years, we wouldn't pay it.

But you know that's not how it works. And you know he's moving this thing in the right direction; and you know USC was a legitimate threat.

Presto.

Now Aggies are in the cross hairs. If Sumlin has two mediocre years in a row, then he will be in the hot seat AND will have a huge buy out.
Good luck.

But he deserves no credit for his stellar performance? Nevertheless he deserves criticism for not churning true fish into seasoned SEC defensive players in less time than he had Joeckel?

Tell you what. Fine. Take Joeckel off the board.

4 All-Americans in two years.

If you look more closely, the 2012 team could have just as easily been 8-5 with the wrong bounces in the Alabama, La. Tech, and Ole Miss games as they could have been 14-0 with the right bounces in the Florida and LSU games.
