Plenty of basketball talent also comes out of Georgia while UGA rarely gets any of it.

Tier2 problems.

Show me one, I mean literally any single ONE, person who thinks UGA is a tier 1 basketball program.

I'm going to get more beer. Surely you'll have a link by the time I get back.

dummy I already said I'm not blaming other for us not winnign a title. We have only ourselves to blame. I'm talking ONLY about the original point you made that we are underachievers based on how many people from GA get drafted.
I think you are going to have to draw a nice colorful picture for him to understand what you're talking about, his comprehension skills don't seem to be up to par.

Georgia has a plenitude of HS football, baseball and basketball talent yet it rarely seems to manifest itself on the field/court in the same proportions.

I have said before there seems to be a culture of apathy over there. Good enough mentality. Maybe it comes from the academic side or just the culture surrounding Athens.

LA talent is usually quoted on a per capita basis because there is not that many people living here. The Greater Houston area alone is more populous than the state of LA... FWIW

Link? I'm going to assume that is not possible.

Georgia is pretty exceptional. Not surprising.

These numbers are based upon where they played their high school ball?

And your point would be valid if schools like Florida, Florida State, and Miami hadn't been so successful in the 30+ years it has been since Georgia won a national title. They compete against themselves as well as every other major program in the country for recruits and yet they continue to win championships.

Take the Florida Gators. They compete against far more teams than Georgia does for its in-state talent. And yet, since 1990, Florida has won the SEC crown 8 times and the national crown 3 times. Meanwhile, Georgia has a pair of conference titles to show for all the in-state talent they have at their disposal. Yeah...other schools from outside the state compete for yours, but the Gators have that same issue. But, unlike Florida, your only in-state competition for talent is freaking Georgia Tech.

Yes...you underachieve tremendously. To deny this is to deny your tier one status.

combination of a couple of things. This draft class would mostly be made up of 2010 and 2011 players.

1. A strong 2011 class: Landry, Hill, Beckham all going early

2. A weaker 2012 Class; huge drop off in talent after Landon Collins. The best 2 from that class after Collins are probably Hawkins and Dural who are still in school.

3. La'el getting wrapped up in a murder investigation basically took 1 out of the equation.

My guess would be that California high school football is stronger in the skill positions than the trenches and the like. Since there can be only so many skill positions, they're behind simply because there are so many other positions and other states do those better. How many QBs does the league need (just for example)?

It's no secret that baseball is California's #1 sport. You can see this in the amount of talent that goes through travel ball and the overall amount of interest in travel ball. Basketball kind of depends on where you are

I'm not. HOFers are going to be drawn from past eras for the most part, and the state of Florida didn't become a true football powerhouse until around the mid-to-late 1970s, when their population started exploding.

The first part of your sentence is what makes it surprising though. California has 12 million more people than the next closest state, twice as many as Florida, and almost four times as many as Georgia. Even if football was number 3 in popularity (which I find hard to believe) I would expect it to be number 1 just on sheer number of people relative to everyone else

I guarantee you there's as much if not more interest in baseball in the South as there is in Cali.
