that's exactly what my dad did... grew up an alabama fan, going to alabama games... went to school at Auburn... decided he couldn't attend a school and not pull for them... made the switch.

I know people who have done the opposite... grew up AU, but switched when they began school at AL... personally, I think that's the way to go.

I guess I couldn't really see it with a Rival, but going to another school, sure.

I grew up an Alabama fan. Older sis went to Alabama, and if it were not for a scholarship at Troy, I probably would have gone to Alabama. I was really, really undecided on where to go. The school that wanted to pay for my eduction for me sealed the deal. I'm still a Bama fan, but Troy will always come first.

And I have a good childhood friend that went to Auburn for undergrad. His parents met at Auburn and he'd been raised from birth to be an Auburn fan. Then he went to Law School at Alabama. Still a huge Auburn fan though.

I think post-graduate is a little different... but really, whatever floats your boat is what you should do...

not that big a deal one way or the other.

I think where you get your bachelor degree from should be where your allegiance goes in most circumstances. If you don't switch to that school, you won't enjoy your college experience the way you're supposed to.

Grew up a Bama fan, but graduated from Samford. My high school has more fans than Samford football so......Roll Tide!

I was raised a diehard Bama fan, and I still am one.

However, I am currently attending Auburn. I wanted to choose the best school for my desired degree (software engineering), and I wasnt going to let football dictate the quality of my degree.

On a side note, I occasionally sit in the student section wearing my Bama gear to non-Bama games. Thats always a lot of fun.

I think being young and being in a college atmosphere can change your allegiance. I've seen it happen, it's just usually not Alabama and auburn fans

I grew up a rebel but decided to attend Alabama for college. I became a Bama fan the first time I walked into the stadium with a date and a pocket full of whiskey.

My son was born and lived in Louisiana until he was 12. Moved to Alabama when he was in Junior High and graduated from High School at Bob Jones. Is a Senior at Auburn now. LSU is still his first love and pulls for them as much as I do as a lifelong LSU fan. He does pull for Auburn as his second favorite but would never pull for the Barn over the Tigahs. I guess I am a proud Father to see I raised my son right.

I grew up a Tulane fan because my dad played for them back in the day. Sort of became an LSU fan when my older brothers went there.

Became full blown Tiger fanatic at my first game as a student, the famous 6-6 tie with #1 Nebraska in Death Valley. I lived in the stadium at the time. 2 degrees and 9 years later, my blood was completely purple and gold.

Longtime lurker, first post. Ignore everything below.

Most of my family went to either UNA or UA, and I have degrees from both. So I have degrees from the two schools that were my rooting interests growing up... partly my decision, partly for other reasons... UNA was closer to home and I had no idea what I wanted to do out of high school... and at the time UA was the only instate school that had a graduate degree in my field so I went there for my MS.

I think I could have gotten into sporting events at other schools. I just wouldn't be as emotionally attached to them I guess. But it's difficult to say.

I have a friend who went to UNA with me and went to UNC-Chapel Hill for his grad degree. I think I would have been able to get into UNC basketball, but all he cares about to this day is 'Bama football.

I know plenty of people that went to Alabama because a degree wasn't offered at Auburn and vice versa. That didn't change their fandom. Sounds like he was never a real fan.
