March madness...yes. SEC tournament, yup, I'll watch it.

The rest of the college basketball season, could care less.

NBA...haven't watched since Magic and Byrd squared off.

One and dones really only affect a few teams in significant way.

but these teams are what can make basketball good.
Nobody knew who Nerlins Noel was before last season. he became a household name, if only for a half season, now gone. How wonderful to have someone like that return to battle your team in an important conference game. now, I couldn't name one player on Kentucky s team.
imagine the same in football. any decent player on any team will be gone. And if you're not gone, then you're subpar.
one and done would destroy college football just like it has college basketball.

There are several "household names" on Kentucky now. You just don't know them apparently.

He says it like it proves a point, when all it proves is that he probably shouldn't even be talking about the state of college basketball to begin with since he apparently doesn't know much about it.

Another thing that hurts basketball, at least as it compares to football, is the irregularity of the scheduling and processes. I know that NSD will be early each February, with an interesting lead up to boot. Every year, I know that my team is playing every Saturday but one. College basketball has irregular scheduling, odd signing periods and an oddly early recruiting cycle, and I literally have no idea what month basketball's NSD is in.

I think it is funny that we talk about basketball like it was tennis or something. The northern schools pretty much do the same but with football instead. Funny how they are opposites pretty much.

Nah. It's not really like that. Football is a bigger deal in "the North" than basketball, too.

That's a pretty good point. In addition, basketball is that sport that kind of interrupts college football season with a fair amount of games left to play, which, to me, turns me off to it. I know it has to start then bc of the number of games, but still, when I see the early ads for it, I get a little pissed.

People love the tournament, but it's a really shitty way to pick a champion.

It is, but it's a necessary evil in many ways. Does it need to be 68 teams? No, that part is overkill, but it is a lot harder in basketball to just say "ok, you two, play a national title game." Basketball is also much more "day by day" than football. Football results likely wouldn't change in MOST cases if the two teams played again tomorrow (assuming no major injuries or adjustments made). However, in basketball, sometimes a guy just has a red hot or ice cold shooting night. Things like that make a tournament that tests teams repeatedly a necessary evil.

Sure, sometimes the "best" team getes weeded out by an unlucky bad game while the lesser team has a great night. It is a lot better than trying to pick two basketball teams in America to square off in a national championship game without a tournament though.

Out of the big 3 sports: football, baseball and basketball I would order them:

1. football
2. basketball
3. baseball

Football has the best combination of pace, distinct strategy, physical play and offense/defense. Basketball obviously is the fastest pace but execution can be down right chaotic and it is not as physical by design with fouls so offense trumps defense. Baseball is unique but has the slowest pace and can be boring. Baseball is the most defensively oriented since obviously even the best hitters only get hits about 1/3 of the time.

You're not alone. Many, many football fans have an odd irrational fear/disdain of basketball. I really don't get it. It's OK, you don't have to care about basketball. Just know that it isn't going to take away football. It's gonna be OK.

Back when I attended LSU, the program was damn strong. The Dale Brown days when the Assembly Center was nationally known as the 'Deaf Dome' one of the loudest venues in the country, when LSU replaced Kentucky as the premier SEC hoops program. The glory days.

So as an LSU fan, I've always hoped for a return to those glory days, and I think Johnny Jones will takes us back to those in a few years.

So yeah.
