Of course I always thought auburn was King of Li'l Bro, but I don't think they really are. They have some success recently, and while they still compare themselves to us, they have some of their own accomplishments in their own right. They are sort of the Eli Manning of the SEC now.

Texas A&M was an obvious choice, but now that they've joined the SEC and Texas has declined, they have a legitimate claim to being top dog in Texas. They still have remnants of "Li'l Broism", like the whole "We Run This State" thing, but in a year or two we may see the longwhorns turning into the little guy.

Mississippi State - no, you have to have a big bro to be a little bro. You can't make Peter Brady (Ole Miss) into the big bro just cause Greg is gone.

With Gundy's antics, I think Ok State has moved into the premier role of AllTime Li'l Bro for college football. Any other programs out there which can make a real claim?

I agree. I also don't see much from Okie State in the way of trying to convince other people that they're as nationally relevant as Oklahoma.

That's one of the keys of little bro-ing

"HEY EVERYONE!! WE'RE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS ______!!! THIS IS OUR STATE TOO!!!!!!11"

Aggie...to the power of 10. In the short time that they've been in the SEC I can clearly see what the Texas fans had been dealing with.

Couldn't have put it better myself, Oklahoma State doesn't try to convince people that they are the best or that they run the state, they just want respect

Okie State is on a LSU kick right now. First the Gundy comment about 2011, and then the "We are going to take the DBU title back" comment. It's kind of weird.

the question of little brother is so interesting, because there really aren't that many.

As a UGA fan , I don't really consider GT a little brother, yes the hate is real, but each school really isn't jealous to be like the other. They don't want to be the other.

Auburn, Tex AM, Okie Sate, NC State to both UNC & Duke are the only ones I really consider as " little brothers"

And with Auburn, Tex AM & Okie lite ... its just so evident of the jealousy.

This is a very good point. I have to think this over. On the one hand, the "Look at me!" aspect of the Li'l Bro is undeniably. But can't you also make the case that if you are COMPLETELY reduced to a second class state, such that you don't even try to make a case, that may be even MORE Li'l Bro. Good post.

There are three subsets of the SEC Lil' Bro Complex.

The Aggie subset is deeply rooted in fear. Plain and simple, Aggies are completely petrified of Big Bro Texas and their behavior speaks to this.

The Auburn subset reminds me of the gossip around a small Southern town. Auburn won't say anything directly to Big Bro Bama's face, but will spew venomous lies and slander all across town. Really, the Auburn subset is rooted in jealousy, more than anything.

The Starkville subset is the "least polished" of the three because, historically, Mississippi State fans aren't known for their expertise in social interaction or being civilized. Their complex is rooted in anger and they will fight a Rebal for no reason except for that he is a Rebal and they are a Bulldawg. They know no better, as they are a bit behind the times.

No way Okie Lite is more little bro than us. Most of all their traditions they stole from other non-Oklahoma Big 12 teams (mostly Tech). In fact a nickname for them is Xerox U for being so unoriginal.

On the other hand, we have little bro traditions that go back decades. Nothing beats an original.

This is the relationship between UGA & GT...

Ironic, since:

a) They beat you last year, and
b) At the end of that cartoon, the little dog slaps around the big dog.

We used to be more of the hate variety. A really petty hate. Us moving to fear is actually an improvement.

When you are at the little bro fear stage, at least you have something to fear. For us its the fear we will get locked in the basement again. But that implicitly means you have hope, or you wouldn't have fear.

When you are at the hate stage you have nothing to fear because you have no hope. Big bro dominates so much you can't even pretend its worth caring, which breeds hate.

There is a third stage- denial. Denial is when you no longer have fear because you have an advantage, and so you deny that you ever had fear or hate about the now weaker program. It is the last stage before you simply don't care anymore. This is basically where Georgia is.

I hope to see A&M move into a denial stage in my lifetime, but it would take two national titles.

An "Ole Miss" fan telling anyone else they are a "bit behind the times" is hilarious.

Baylor and TCU have been consistently better the last several years than either UT or a&m.
