clemson's recruiting would be even more unbelievable if Clemson was in the SEC. not being in the sec is probably the number one way how SEC coaches recruit against Clemson.

No. The SEC is a business and it considers expansion based on the new markets that it can penetrate. SEC already has the SC market .

Conferences are irrelevant now thanks to the playoff.

The question is moot.

not really. for example, making playoffs out of big 12 is more challenging until they get title game. and conference with most chance of ettging two teams most years is SEC.

They would be considered, yes. The fact that South Carolina is already a member and has that state covered would be a serious negative though.

While expanding the geographical SEC footprint is the main idea, there comes a point when expanding the footprint at the cost of quality hurts a league. See the BIG 10's addition of Rutgers as a case study. Also see the reasoning for the BIG 12 not expanding when they realized expanding into the Florida market was not actually beneficial if the only teams available are UCF and USF.

While NC State makes the most geographical sense if you want to expand up the east coast (assuming UNC is unavailable), do you water down the entire league just a bit by adding a program that is just "blah" in all the major sports?

There is also a cost to that, though its more difficult to quantify.

i wud say overall NC State is better than most SEC programs in basketball.

i kind of view East Carolina as most SEC like school in NC though.

You would have to kill off one of the current Tigers to get a spot.

Your choice (we recommend Mizzou).

NC State has a rabid football fan following.

NC State is located in the RTP which is one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

NC State is very competitive in basketball, baseball and many other Olympic sports ... far moreso than Mizzou for that matter.

Geographically and TV revenue-wise NC State makes a helluva lot more sense than Mizzou ever did.

NC State has great facilities as well.

And NC State is a very decent road trip, plus their fans travel well.

Never. Too close to the recruiting grounds of UT, UG, USCe, AU.

There's an understanding among universities that no team within the same state of an existing team will be invited.

That's why FSU & Clemson haven't already been invited.

Why would Clemson want to join the SEC? All they have to worry about now is beating FSU and avoid getting upset along the way.

No, we'll only expand in states that don't currently have an SEC team. We're after money and tv deals.
