The RPO is a cheat play. In college the ball must be thrown behind the LOS if anyone goes down field and blocks. On an RPO you can block down field (supposedly in a 3 yard limit which is never enforced) and throw a pass past the LOS.
It is bullshite, just like the pick plays Clemson ran which were thrown past the LOS. People who don't know anything about college football think this is great, but the rules are there for a reason and need to be enforced.

The Spread doesn't bother me what bothers me is there aren't enough QBs to run it properly. For every Baker Mayfield and Trace McSorely, there's a half dozen Jalen Hurts and JT Barrett's who can pass just well enough to get by but are really glorified RBs who can't win a game with their arms and are really not that difficult to stop once you figure that out. Look at all the piss poor offensive play and production due not to stellar defense but due to deficient QB play. It reminds me of the 70's when everybody wanted to run some version of the triple option like Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas did but few teams could run it as effectively because there weren't enough elite option QBs to go around.
I thought the goal of most of these kids was to get to the NFL. Well news flash to them: an above average drop back pro style QB has a much better chance of getting drafted than even an elite spread guy with mediocre passing skills. So which would you rather be?

Jalen Hurts is a much better passer than people give him credit for especially considering he's only 16-17 games into his career. JT plateaud his freshman year when he had Tom Herman tutoring.
A lot of the issues attributed to Hurts in the passing game have little to do with him or his ability.

I might be putting a date on myself, but I remember when players could not only hit each other hard, but you could even tackle the QB.

I hate the the hunter renfrow's of the world that fill the seams between the Watson/Manziels and M. Williams/ M. Evans of the world to create Os that Saban can't scheme to dominate.

College football evolves. I'm not a big fan of the current evolution, I hope we see it morph again soon.

Shocker coming from a fan of a team that can't beat the HUNH.

It's not like every team runs that kind of offense. The variety among how teams play in cfb is one of the reasons I prefer it over the NFL

I hate the fact that every network believes they must put their games of the week at the same time. This past weekend could have been an exceptional weekend of watching football but instead the 4 major games were all played at the same time! Had to channel surf and missed a good portion of every game. This seems like it is becoming the norm now.

That's just a myth. There was never such a time ;^)

What's weird is how a linebacker looks today.

I'll be completely honest - I hate the new offense in cfb. Every single team runs the exact same system - shotgun almost every snap, option offense, goofy picture cards on the sideline. Not to mention the no-huddle. Most teams now would rather have a QB that can run a 4.4 than one that can throw a forward pass.
Most of this is wrong. Teams do not run the same offense. Many teams still snap from under center a substantial amount of plays. Not every offense runs an option. Not everyone uses the cards. And being mobile doesn't mean you can't pass.
As for the no-huddle -- it provides obvious tactical advantages. Why wouldn't teams use it? More to the point, why shouldn't they?

I wish that college would go back to looking more like the pro game
Maybe you don't watch the NFL anymore, but it looks more and more like the college game. The NFL has always followed the college game.

If anything, it will morph more and more to protect the players because of all the research coming out about brain trauma.
A good starting point: Two targeting penalties in a season gets you suspended for the rest of the season. Don't care if you are a walk-on or the #1 pick. You're done.
More fundamental: The lines will not be allowed to go forward at the snap. They will have to go vertical. This will fundamentally change the game.

Exactly! This is what I wish cfb would go back to - big, scary linebackers.
I could stiff-arm the f out of these 6' 200 lb linebackers today (If I worked out)

A state funded developmental league for the NFL? No.

Unfortunately the NFL rules on backup QBs make that impossible.
If the #3 QB enters the game before the 4th quarter, then the first two QBs can't return. That bit the Bears in the arse a few years back when Cutler had to come out late in the game.
