Been arguing with a friend that graduated from FSU this morning about who has the better league this year. He said he would take the Big 10 depth and ACC is one small step behind SEC this year. The narrative could shift during rivalry week but overall it was difficult to argue against some of those points.

Some metric has SEC West as best division and SEC east as worst in Power 5. You average those together and we barely edge out ACC, followed by Big 10.

Someone probably has a link.

we had a bit of a rough start to the season. But at the same time, Auburn and LSU kept it tight with a couple of the best teams from other conferences.

Its hard to tell this year. The SEC hasn't seemed as top notch as it has been in the past but we might very well go on a rampage in the bowl season.

I can't get a good read on how good the Big 10 is because the bottom of the conference is very bad. Nebraska had a gaudy record only to get roflstomped when they played a top notch team for example.

As of right now I'd say Bama and Michigan are the cream of the crop as far as teams. But there is a chance neither school makes it to their conference title game. Its been a weird and wacky season this year.

i'd say either sec or big10. splitting hairs imo, though sec west > big10 east.

It's either the SEC or the Big Ten.

Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and even Penn State look pretty good this year.

I think their Michigan and Ohio State one two punch is better than the SEC this year. It's Alabama and then a drop.

I'd argue the Big 10 is a bit better this year.

Comparing the top 5 in each conference (according to the AP)...

Michigan
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Penn State
Nebraska

vs

Alabama
Auburn
Texas A&M
LSU
Florida

Big 10 average AP ranking is 9.6, SEC average ranking is 12.

That doesn't tell you everything of course, but the top of the Big 10 is better than the top of the SEC.

Hard to say. When the SEC East is so terrible it makes it really difficult to judge.

I think so but it's a lot closer than it has been. The B1G could be the best this year with Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin and Nebraska all looking pretty strong. Meanwhile the SEC has Alabama, A&M with 2 losses and Auburn with 2 losses (one to Clemson) and LSU with 3 losses. Ole Miss and Tennessee have floundered due to injuries/lack of depth. LSU as usual has a strong defense but lacking on offense but would probably match up well with Nebraska. So here's how it might go:

1. Alabama over Michigan
2. OSU over Auburn
3. A&M over Wisconsin (maybe)
4. LSU over Nebraska
5. Tennessee over Penn St.
6. Arkansas over Minnesota
7. Florida over Iowa (maybe)
8. MSU over Indiana (maybe)
9. Ole Miss over Maryland (maybe without Kelly)
10. Georgia over Northwestern
11. Kentucky over Illinois
12. SC over Purdue
13. Vandy over Michigan St.
14. Missouri over Rutgers

Right, the top of the conferences might lean slightly to the Big 10, though its hard to tell, but the middle and bottom of the conference seems to favor the SEC.

I think it's probably close between the SEC, Big 10 and ACC.

Bama's the best, but after that it's a bigger drop off than it has been in years past.

I think PSU is better than Nebraska and that may have the B1G winning both your 4 and 5 scenario (we will probably get to see a few of these games as these 2 conferences don't shy away from playing each other on Jan 1). Not for sure of course

I will say Penn State has impressed their last few weeks. They had a fluke win over OSU which I dont give so much credit for, but that win has seemingly given them supreme confidence. I would say they are the most improved team in the B1G and maybe the country from game 1 to today

The Big 10 is slightly better this year, but the SEC still has the best team. That helps the SECs perception immensely. Truth is, there's a ton of parity in CFB this year. There's not much too much of a difference once you get past the top 4-5 teams in the nation.

As much as I hate the Big Ten, they've been pretty good this year.

Michigan and Ohio State are elite teams. Penn State, Nebraska and Wisconsin are very good and have all hovered near or been in the Top 10 at some point this season. Indiana, Minnesota and Maryland are sneaky good teams, and Northwestern and Iowa are better than their records indicate.

The problem with the SEC is that the disparity between its good and bad divisions is arguably more stark than ever before.

Hard to say. Big Ten is top heavy with Michigan and OSU. ACC is the same--to a lesser extent--with Clemson and Louisville. I think FSU and LSU/Auburn are prob equals. Alabama gives SEC a bump but i cant say unequivocally SEC is best conference. I can say unequivocally that the East is the anchor.

northwestern is legit this year, that would be a tough game for any SEC team.

I think they could give a run to anyone in the East, and the bottom half of the West

bullshite. I saw their game against Penn State. Pettway would run all over their defense.

You mean the game where OSU gave up 250 yards total?

I'm mean the one where Franklin went full potato and didn't keep feeding his running back that was gashing your defense.
