You can't win SEC titles with 3 losses anymore like you could when Saban was here.

He also gave us our most embarrassing loss...at home to UAB

Only the most embarrassing because Troy started to look ahead during halftime a few years back. So did the fans judging by the mass exodus during intermission.

I don't remember Les claiming playing in the sec-cg was a requirement when he was lobbying for the sugar bowl in 06.

Luck is having a 5-6 Pitt know off a #2 WVU allowing LSU to back into a bcs-ncg.

Wasn't a NC game

And Iowa State upsetting OSU wasn't?

Bama had a once in a lifetime gift and it's not debatable.

But back on topic, he wins another at LSU and he's #1 without a doubt.

Iowa state didn't knock off osu the last week of the season.

The voters voted bama ahead of osu because they were clearly the best team in he country, the fluke or luck of the year was LSU have the less inept offense and slightly better special teams play against bama in the regular season. The game in January proved that to be the fluke it was.

But that loss was the reason people voted Bama over OSU. I'm sure you knew that though.

Sort of how we felt in 12 & 14, I guess.

Appreciate your knowledge of Bama Football piggie.

Of course he is the best in LSU history. If he had stayed he would have won 2 more NC's for a total of 3. Les has won the SEC once with his players. FACT!!!

Saban's 2004 team had:

Marcus Spears
Corey Webster
Travis Daniels
Andrew Whitworth
Chevis Jackson
Claude Wroten
Craig Davis
Craig Steltz
Dwayne Bowe
Early Doucet
Glenn Dorsey
Jacob Hester
JaMarcus Russell
Joseph Addai
Kyle Williams
LaRon Landry
Matt Flynn
Melvin Oliver
Ronnie Prude
Rudy Niswanger

That's 20 NFL players, including 8 first-rounders and, by my count, ALL twenty lasted at least long enough in the NFL to garner a NFLPA pension check. Saban coached this team to a 9-3 season with a loss to Iowa in the Cap One bowl, and he was incredibly fortunate to get that (THREE missed PAT's from Oregon St.).

Coaching-wise Saban flat-out SUCKED that year.

Yeah, I consider Miles the best in the history of the program. It takes a special talent to last 12 years in the SEC, especially at a place like LSU where they eat thier own.

Though I consider that Saban is the best coach in America, as far as the LSU program is cocerned, Miles has won more games per year (10.2-9.6) and has shown staying power regardless of what the vocal minority thinks. I would rank Miles as number 1, Paul Dietzel at number 2 and Saban 3rd. Though rightfully given credit for resurrecting LSU, Saban inherited several All-SEC players, including 3 future NFL quarterbacks from Dinardo who was let go after having just 2 losing seasons in a row. Dinardo was the guy who really shocked the life back into Tiger nation after 6 straight losing seasons of Archer and Hallman. Dinardo won 26 games in his first 3 seasons, including 3 straight bowl wins before making a horrible hire at DC which doomed him.
Dietzel inherited a program on life support, endured a couple of losing seasons before rolling to 35 wins in his final 4 seasons (10 game seasons), including 1 national championship and 2 other top 3 finishes. The Good Lord only knows how much success Dietzel might have brought to LSU had he stayed longer than 7 years, leaving to coach his dream job at Army. For the other old-timers I would rank Cholly Mac at number 4. If Les hangs around for a couple more years he'll be approaching Mac's career wins mark. Hope he gets it.

If we are comparing LSU only stats, Miles is imo the best coach LSU ever had. If Saban had been successful in the NFL and still running the show in Miami, this would not even be a question.

Les has had some fail moments for sure. But in 11 seasons he has been elite. Yes elite. In the hands down toughest conference and division within that conference, he has:

Won a Natty, played for another. Averaged over 10 wins a year, and has never won less than 8 in a year. Has never lost to an OOC opponent in the regular season, despite regularly playing big-name ranked opponents. Ultimate Les Miles Accolades List by Speedy

Some of you are some serious stat finding people. I challenge you to list either active or all-time, coaches (in a P5 conference) who have a minimum 10 year stretch with 1 team to include: 1 Natty, average 10 wins a year, and even a 75% win percentage over ooc teams. I bet the list isn't very big. I wonder if there are any at all since scholarship limits.
