Of course you do, neither of us are idiots

I've no problem in general with sidewalk fans, until posts like the one I replied to. Some want to pretend they have a clue when they clearly don't.

The important stuff: So did you pour trash cans of water on upperclassmen's nether regions from on high, or not? I'm guessing not, with mixed male/female units. I'm not sure how that would work.

No, that practice got banned before my time. New Army/hell and all that jazz.

Like I said, Corps as a whole continues to get more and more lax. My Corps experience was no doubt downright easy compared to yours and my dad's, but even mine looks hard now compared to the current iteration. Oh well.

Actually it would have shocked me if you'd said yes, you did that. I can't see how you can instruct freshmen to direct 55 gallons of water to a guy's nuts from the 3rd floor if there are women involved . And then you have the very real problem of - what if the target is a woman? I don't think I could have participated in that.

Some of the other stuff needed to go away as well. When I was there beating the butts of freshmen with axe handles was somehow normal, and that always seemed insane to me. I did what I could to nix that in our company when I was a senior, but it still went on. I trust that one is a distant memory. At least I hope it is.

I just hope they're doing endless pushups. If they are, then all's good.

To me, women in the Corps changed everything. I'm still trying to figure out if they changed it for the better. Right now I think they did, but I'm old and soft.

BTW the current Corps Commandant General Joe Ramirez is a classmate. If you have a gripe let me know and I'll send him a BQ joke.

Cumberland. Educational purposes its as good as it gets. The down fall is the practice of law. I'm now doing what I love with municipal finance law but it was a growing pain to get here. My full advice would be to make sure she knows she wants to do law in some area, because the payoff isn't worth the cost if your hearts not in it. I have friends making as much as I do without the debt selling beer to bars (not knocking) with barely graduating. Just hoping in the long run it pays out

Well, as a young single man, let me say I wasn't exactly complaining about being in a coed outfit and having hot females next door to me Let's just say I grew adept at learning the fraternization workarounds (nothing new under the sun, I know ). Shoot, my outfit's CO was a female my freshman and sophomore years. You either learned to deal with it or shut the hell up. I liked the environment.

Bring back the slapboards in the hallways, dammit!

During my time, the Corps Commandant was General John Van Alstyne (great guy, IMO), and for a brief while, Lt. Col Gardner (who was my dad's pisshead back in the day in Gator 2).

From the old fart's perspective I don't understand how this worked. How did every female living within a mostly-male company not end up pregnant, for example? But that's probably just me being an old fart. In my time, women had just been allowed into the Corps and they had a separate company isolated to their own dorm. As a freshman it was my sworn duty (according to some warped juniors) to make their lives miserable. W-1 puts up a spirit sign for a football game? That sucker has to be burned before Friday. Which I and a buddy did, as was our duty. Our other duty was "No matter what, don't ever get caught. Run." We ran a lot. Not something I'm particularly proud of... but we were good runners, and were never caught. I credit HS football line coach.

My outfit was split almost exactly 50/50 male/female during most of my time there (it was exactly 50/50 among my original buddies that made it through FOW). I dunno how every female didn't get pregnant, but there were plenty of........shenanigans, let us say Even today I'm extremely close with my female buddies (which is why I'm glad my wife was also in the Corps--I don't have to explain why those relationships mean a lot to me, and therefore there's no jealousy or craziness).
