Born and raised in Baton Rouge but left home to go to UVA for college. Much bigger LSU fan than UVA fan. I can recite you mot of LSU's two-deep but could probably name only 3 of UVA's players.

I think the categorization of all "sidewalk" fans as fans who are inferior to alums is a bit of an over-simplification. While I understand that a person who did not graduate from an institution does not have the same strong feelings about that institution that an alum might have, it doesn't mean they don't have strongs feelings about the University or its athletic programs.

I started going to LSU games when I was 4 during the Curley Hallman years, and LSU games to me represent home and fond memories I shared with my grandparents and siblings. While I don't know what it's like to live a block from campus for 4 years, I have other ties to LSU that are just as strong.

I understand what people mean when they say sidewalk fans (the Harvey Updikes that every fan base unfortunately has), but do people really believe that a respectable person who happened to attend a different school, or no school at all, is any less of a fan? Different - maybe, but I don't think less.
