Him going for that fourth down at the end of the first half should've sealed his fate. That was a very stupid decision and it almost came back to bite him. If LSU TD at end of game counted, not taking the field goal would have been the difference in the game. I could understand going for it if you're also getting the ball at the half but that wasn't the case. Take the points and momentum.

The only way Gus Malzahan makes it out of this season intact is if Auburn can't find a way to cough up the dough to do away with him.

Any more, can you really say anyone not named Saban has job security?Sure some coaches have longer than others, but I think the expectation has been set.

If there was enough time to force a punt, then I would have been OK with going for it. He should have kicked the FG...

We have Miss St, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Vandy up. Starting to believe we may have a chance at 3 of 4. Eventually our offense will start putting it in the end zone... and defense looks pretty good.

Gus has been a part of a very successful run in Auburn's history. He may be in over his head, but it would be nice to see if he just screwed up on QB recruiting before we pull the plug. It will also save a boat load of cash.

The programs that spend their money on facilities and staff instead of wasting money on coaches not better than Saban will reap the rewards when Saban finally moves on.

Most of use Boogs are pretty rational about this, at least now that the afterglow of 2013 has completely faded.

Gustav is clearly not the genius we thought he was, based on our two recent championship runs. But we're not inclined to spend the $9 million or so it would take to buy him out this year - particularly since it would involve allowing the idiot who set up that buyout (and hired him, and Chiz, in the first place) to be a part of the next hiring process.

The vast majority of the AU fanbase would like to see us replace our retiring President, and have him/her evaluate (and replace) our current AD before embarking on another ride on the Coaching Carousel.

Winning (or should I say, not losing) the other night makes that possibility a little more palatable. Of course losses to MSU, Arky and/or Vandy might change the dynamic. Likewise, running the table, or winning 7 of the remaining 8 games would likely restore our confidence in his abilities (admittedly, this seems pretty improbable).

Tl;dr - Gus didn't really 'save' his job, but his seat is a little less warm.

My own personal opinion is if Gus struggles this year and goes 7-5 or worse, he is forced to clean out his offensive staff, hire a new OC and let him run the show. If that still doesn't work, he is axed after 2017.

He has done a lot of stuff well. He has AU in the top 10 every year in cruitin'. He has Steele there now running the defense better than it has been ran in about 8 years. The talent is there on both sides of the ball, he just needs to put the offense back together.

In life, things are never as bad or as good as they seem. In this case, they aren't as bad as people think, imo. AU played CLEMSON (top 5 team) and lost by a few points. AU played TAMU (top 20 team easily) and lost. AU played LSU (always loaded with NFL talent) and eeked out a win. It's not like AU has been playing cupcakes here. I think it's a very similar situation to Ole Siss and their brutal opening schedule.

I think Gus has 4.7 million reasons to get things turned around and I think he will. If he doesn't, oh well, it's not the end of the world. Plenty of good coaches out there.

Probably saved it through year's end.

If he truly gives over the play-calling reigns to Lashlee (does anyone really believe this?), and Lashlee starts getting significant production out of the office, then Gus has a job indefinitely.

The problem is, I don't have any idea how Lashlee will do and I don't think Gus can keep his freaking hands out of the offensive cookie bowl.

Side note: Am I the only one that really feels bad for Sean White? I think the dude has serious talent that, once developed, could get him a starting job on Sundays. But he's stuck in Gus's freaking DT QB system with no coach that knows how to develop him and his skill-set. It's a damn shame I tell you. Such a likeable guy that wants the best for his team.

Gus is no longer calling the offensive plays, so yes, he did save his job Saturday. If the offense sputters, it will be Lashlee's fault and he will be asked to move on after the season.
