I'm sure phone calls were made to gauge interest... We'd have been dumb not to. But in terms of actual, legitimate candidates, Malzahn was #1 from the start.

Yup, we had talks with Smart, Fisher, and PAtterson at TCU...but made one offer.

Yours are rumors from fanbase run websites.

I give up. Auburn never interviewed or offered the head coaching job to anyone other than Malzahn just like Auburn has only offered scholarships to the players currently on the team

we wouldn't offer the job without interviewing, imo... not someone like Jimbo Fisher anyway... or sumlin for that matter.

There could be exceptions to that rule, but those two (at least not JF) would not be, imo.

You're right. Auburn interviewed and Sumlin, Fisher, Belichick, Saban all begged to get the job but Auburn decided on Malzhan

You don't offer the job until you interview them.. The hire was done by committee, so just pulling names from a hat and throwing an offer to their agent wasn't going to fly.

If Jay Jacobs was the sole person responsible for the hire, I could very well see him offering the big name candidates, throw a bunch of money their way, just to save his arse - considering he was treading water at the time. But it didn't go down like that.

Yes. Two very good, very accomplished coaches that auburn would have been foolish NOT to offer the job to.

But there's no reputable news outlet that reports us actually offering them? Seems a little strange to me. There was a report that Vandy offered Malzahn $ 3 million and a report that he didn't accept the offer. Seems like there'd be at least one report of us offering those coaches, or them not accpeting the offer.

Don't get me wrong, I was in the Fisher camp. Then again, I've had a hard on for him since a certain BoT denied my alma mater the opportunity to hire him.
