It seems like they never really recovered from that day. The QB position has struggled ever since.

No winning 9-6 did. If LSU would have lost they would have beat Bama in the mulligan..

I never thought of it that way.

Bama would have played Okie State in the championship and there would still be posts here about how LSU got screwed and should have been in that game.

Seemed to be a perceptible downturn once Les ran out of players recruited and developed by Saban and staff, with 2011 looking more and more like an anomaly now.

Obviously. They should have fired Miles immediately following that game.

No.

The '08 int/pick-6 fest is what haunts Les to this day.

LSU went 9-4 in 2009, 11-2 in 2010, 13-1 in 2011, and 10-3 in 2012. Looks like the players Les recruited developed gradually got better and peaked at a 13-1 season. Yes, starting 13-0 is unusual, even for Alabama.

LSU finished 97th in total passing in 2009. They had 30 yards passing in the 2011 SEC Championship against Georgia (and Jordan Jefferson had -5 rushing yards to go with his 30 passing yards). The QB position sucked for some time before 21-0. For the most part, the Miles system is a QB killer. His defenses have not been as elite lately and that's adding up to more Ls due to his terrible offensive mentality.

Winning all those games despite bad offensive game planning is what ruined Miles. It gave a false sense of that years success being a result of his strategy when in fact LSU was winning on the back of the defense, a ton of talent and a honey badger.

To use one game as an excuse is kind of ridiculous. It happened 5 years ago. When Bama lost to tOSU, they put it behind them and won the ship the next season. LSU's biggest problem has been the inability to recruit and develop a QB to fit their system. They could have AP in the backfield, but it doesn't matter if teams are selling out to stuff the run and the QB can't complete a forward pass. The program has been in a steady decline under Les Miles and needs new life.

LSU is not ruined, they are a top 25 team. You can't ask for more than that every year.

If Okie lite would have made a gw chip-shot field goal in Ames, Iowa: LSU plays them in the ship, goes in dry, and this isn't a thread.

True, I just feel LSU fans hold them to the expectations that Bama fans hold Saban to.

A lot would say J-lee ruined miles when in comes to offensive philosophy and I tend to agree to an extent

Prior to the pick 6-a-thon that season, miles had garnered a reputation for being an aggressive risk taker. The "mad hatter". The closest he has come to trusting a qb since was mett in his second season and I still don't think he fully trusted mett

2008 made Miles shut the offense down.

21-0 was the culmination of his conservative Mickey Mouse offense being exposed by the best in the business

The 2012 home game with Bama almost broke the yoke but when AJ hit Yeldon on the screen it was the mental knockout blow.

He had Saban dead to rights in 2014 but out coached himself and further cemented the fact that he will never beat Nick again.
