Because if you fire him after a single year, it scares away other coaches who might want the job. No one wants to go into a situation where the deck is stacked against them, the roster is woeful, and the school fired the last guy who tried in a year. Doesn't matter that Mason rightfully deserves to be fired but how other coaching prospects are going to see it. You don't want coaches looking at your school and thinking giant issues, difficult conference and odds and a fanbase/AD who only gave the last guy a year.

What if the coach and the coach alone is the problem? The dumbest thing we could do is keep him another year.

He's like Muschamp without any resources.

Then Vandy's AD is simply and utterly incompetent.

10/26/14 Mason Show

Looks like it was actually on Sunday night. It ran late.

Isn't there some kind of Vandy independent fan site/blog that would have mentioned this in some capacity? I know it's Vandy but I find it hard to believe no one mentioned it.

Thanks for this. I should have thought of going to the message board in the first place. The answer was there all along.

My Gawd! You have a weird affinity to this coaches show.

I am a Bama fan/alum - we have one of the best coaches in college football, he has won 3 NC's in his Bama tenure and I could count on one hand how many times I've watched our post-game coaches show since Saban has been at the helm.

and there are thousands that do watch it every week. it wouldn't be a significant portion of his contract if people didn't. which makes it weird that vandy would just cancel a coach's show, given every coaching contract you ever see includes this type of media contract within.

Didn't cancel it. Aired later that night. OP made a huge leap.

I understand that and honestly believe he needs to be fired - the man deserves it and then some. There's a bad year and then there's the utter incompetence he's shown. Dooley deserved earlier as well but got another year because of the fact that it scares other coaches away when you fire too soon.

If your AD fires him he'll be in the position of paying his buyout plus well overpaying the next guy to get him there. Coaches are going to want reassurances in the form of a bad deal for Vanderbilt and top and up and coming coaches aren't gonna touch it even with that (not if you fire after 1 year).

You've got a smart AD so hopefully he figures something out because Mason is harming your program. Is there any alum out there you could bring in to right the ship? And if he's competent but still loses due to talent issues you'll show patience with as he digs out of this hole?
