Wait, so the Big 10 cannot even play teams from the group of 5? Those are FBS programs. That is stupid. There are plenty of Group of 5 schools that can beat you any given Saturday.

I mostly agree with this, although I would modify it to say that FBS needs to be reorganized around the P5. Teams need to decide - in or out. In and you join a P5, if you can. Out and you're relegated to FCS where you belong.

This will cut down the number of crappy bowls we have to sit through every year, too. In other words, this plan would virtually eliminate bad games.

I'm for this 100%.

Its about 750K to 1M cheaper to play an FCS team vs an FBS one. I'm fine with having 1 a year. Is it really all the different playing a Mac team vs a Southern team?

Teams should be able to play whoever they want to play. They're subject to the consequences of those decisions (less attendance, weaker SOS, etc.), but if Baylor wants to play Sam Houston St., they should be allowed to do so.

They wouldn't play these games if there wasn't a good reason for it.

There are plenty of FBS bottom feeders out there to play, no reason to play FCS teams.

Washington State lost to an FCS team last week. It was pretty awesome.

never mind that many FCS schools are better than the bottom tier FBS schools or the fact that some FBS schools are legally required to schedule in state FCS schools.

but IIRC SC and Clemson have to play an instate FCS team by state law.

I dont think that's true. They have to play each other by law. But playing the Citadels and the Woffords as opposed to an out-of-state FCS schools makes more sense for both.

Which FBS team MUST, by law, schedule an FCS team? I never heard of that.

If the SEC outlaws playing FCS teams, look for "rents" in rent-a-wins to go sky high. Lower tier FBS teams like GA Southern, ULM, ULL, LA Tech, NM State, MAC teams will be able to demand huge sums to play games in SEC stadiums.

LSU paid McNeese State $500K this year. If games against FCS teams are outlawed by the SEC, LSU will hafta pay those FBS rent-a-wins $1 million or more to get them to come to BR.

Thoughts? Anyone think this will come to an end in the SEC soon?

I hope so. You can get a rent-a-win from the basement of the FBS if you want, the reason ADs keep scheduling these FCS schools is that its cheaper to buy a game with them than with the FBS basement.

I'm fine with them playing each other. For some of the FCS players it is the only time in their career they will get a chance to play in a big time stadium and environment. Plus NFL scouts want to see how the few FCS NFL prospects do against that type of competition.

If we do get rid of the FBS vs. FCS games I'd like to see spring games against each other instead

Pretty sure the SEC passed a similar rule to the Big 10.No more FCS schools and must play at least one power 5 OOC.

Obvoiusly giving teams some time to adjust their schedules.

Love it. No reason to be playing rent a wins.

I've read here many times that USCe is required to. Is that info incorrect?

there is not a whole lot of difference between the best FCS and the worst FBS teams.

the top 2-3 FCS teams are better than half of the FBS.

there is a huge difference.

The SEC does now have a rule mandating at least one P5 opponent, but FCS schools are still allowed.
