actually think he is correct if the rules are strictly interpreted depending on timing of payments and signing, could be wrong though.

Wouldn't accepting payment of any kind based on your status as an athlete jeopardize your "amateur" status?

I mean, if they could get paid by other schools, why couldn't they get paid by Nike (or some other company) then.

No, he is wrong. If a student athlete accepts things of value then he risks losing his amateur status. Bo Scarborough sat 4 games at the start of his Alabama career for "violating the rules of amateurism" during his recruiting process. He got a benefit from somewhere other than Bama, but his punishment followed him to Bama.

As far as Dickerson, what happened in the early 1980s has no bearing on today's rules.

Depends on the sport. Team sports are pretty much No Payment, any time.

Am golfers can win up to a certain amount of prizes in a year, based on the value of the prizes (never cash). I forget what the amount is , but its way less than $1k. So you can win a few hundred in Gift Cards or ProShop merchandise and still be an am

not necessarily, for some reason the NCAA specifically mentions and defines University Reps and boosters, so if you have never donated, bought season tickets, or worked for the school, you are free to buy all the players you wish.

quote:

” An extra benefit is defined as any special arrangement
by an institutional employee or booster to provide a
student-athlete or the student-athlete’s relatives or
friends a benefit not authorized by the NCAA. The
receipt of a benefit not authorized by NCAA regulations
by a student-athlete or his parents, relatives or friends
will immediately place the student-athlete’s eligibility
for intercollegiate athletics competition in jeopardy.

A player can get all the money he wants from any school in the nation and not be in jeopardy of losing eligibility. He just can't receive money from the school he plays at. That would make him ineligible.

I believe I could remember the difference between $100 and $200, and whether someone gave it to me 2 times or 3 times.
Unless it happened so often on the recruiting trail that it really wasn't that significant to him.

Everybody acting like we got busted paying $200k for Knemdiche or something.

We got busted paying $15k to Leo Lewis who signed with State and for giving out $15k in free apparel.

$30k and people talking 4 year bowl bans. WTF

And AL Capone was only busted for tax evasion

Ahh yes, the Tee Martin exception. That one does exist, but to successfully use it I'm pretty sure you need a head coach that had recently served as a secret witness against a highly successful SEC program.

So you would be fine with anonymous fans calling and threatening you and publically trying to sully your name and ruin your career? All because you dared question their obvious cheating ways?

That would put a pretty big chip on my shoulder

Yup. Would never champion a douche like Wolken or Forde regardless of who they were torching. They are both cucks for the NCAA.

FWIW, I don't 100% disagree with their views on the Ole Miss case per se, but their agenda-driven and white knight/SJW viewpoints are insufferable.
