That's not entirely true. Sometimes he would bitch slap them:

Is this the cat that someone posted his slap to the back of the helmet? I honestly was pretty damn impressed by that

This has become Cyko's trademark and a sure fire way to deal with speed rushers.

It's only a matter of time before that gets called a penalty. Head slaps are already illegal in the NFL and I'm pretty sure they are illegal on the college level too. With the concussions being a major concern on all levels of football I'm surprised he has gotten away with it this long. Shots to the back of the head are incredibly dangerous. Even boxing and MMA takes steps to avoid fighters taking repeated shots to the back of the head. He's not attempting to block the DE, he is clearly winding up and trying to hit the end in the head as he comes around.

He's supposed to be hitting them in the back. It's a designed block.

I'm sure he's "missed" a couple of times and landed high

The lick is applied to the top rear portion of the shoulder pad, and that's legal, pal. If he wanted to, he could have broken his fricking neck. Next time that mutherfricker is speed rushing CyKo, he'll have his head about a foot below his tits!

Head slaps

It's not a head slap. That's been illegal for decades.

He hits them in the back or shoulder.

That's why I'm curious how he is getting away with it, especially with all the focus on concussions. Obviously opposing coaches can see it on film, but apparently none of them have brought it to the attention of the SEC front office.

Because he's not hitting them in the head.

Ok

So what is the difference between a big haymaker to the back and a block in the back on a kick return?

why not post a clip or gif to illustrate your ridiculous statement? if he was doing it every play there should be lots of material.

First off, get a grip. And secondly, the one time I saw CK slap at Lawson, it was into the back of his helmet. Not his shoulderpads. I guess that's illegal but doesn't get called of course.

edit: The gif posted above is the one I'm talking about. That was all helmet.

Still wanna know why you can't block a guy in the back or shove a guy in the back during any play in football, but it's ok for your LT to throw bombs into the backs of DE's as they come off the edge.
