About my fifth choice. AD Sterk must have really liked him.

2 NCAAts out of 9 years. He's a good guy but he isn't a dynamic coach. Needs to inherit a lot talent to maybe be a bubble team. Will not recruit enough talent to stay successful. You won't be Kim Anderson bad though.

Or Sterk was told no by several others. Or more likely, the 80,000 missou spent on a search committee told them that were are few coaches interested in the missou job

Blech

There is a rumor that MP3 may be in play.

I hope we're not hiring Cuonzo to get a player.

I actually disagree with this. I think he'll recruit the hell out of Kansas City/St Louis/Chicago.

I think he will recruit well enough. Recruiting has never been his problem though.

Gabe DeArmond is saying the offer is 17.5 million over 5 years.

Exactly.

But, he will definitely be an upgrade over Kim Anderson. Missouri will move into the perennial NIT/Bubble conversation. They won't be a perennial NCAA team, but they won't be a joke anymore.

I could see Cuonzo being a lot like Leonard Hamilton at FSU

-Recruits at extremely high level
-Frequently around ~20W due to talent
-Always bouncing from NIT team to NCAAT team
-Sweet 16 type team once every 6-8 years

Mizz won't win anything big, but they will consistently be above average

Cuonzo has made the NCAA tourny twice in the last 4 years. One of those is a sweet 16 run with Hillbilly U.

Could definitely see that. Good comparison.

He's not a bad coach, but he's not great. I don't think he's worth 3.5 million a year. I agree with bass in that I'm worried we are hiring him just to get a recruit.

He's an average coach that runs a miserable style to watch but recruits well. He's going to win you 17-22 games most years. Sometimes you'll be in the NIT, sometimes you'll be in the NCAAs.

That's who he is as a coach. If anyone is expecting him to come in and win 22-25 games every year they are in for a rude awakening. If they are looking for a big improvement over Kim Anderson then they are in the right place.

To be fair I think you or I could have done a better job than Kim Anderson. That guy was atrocious.. That's why I don't understand the Martin hire. He's OK. Not more not less. Just meh

How are they this damn dumb?

Mizzouing needs to be a new verb created to describe total ineptitude. It's fricking majestically magical.

If you are going to spend that money put an extra million in it, get Marshall, and be done with it.

I will say, though, he is a proven average/above average major college coach. You know what you are going to get, and that's a guy who will have you in the NCAA conversation most years.

Hiring a really good mid-major coach could be great but it also could be a disaster. So, they went the safe route and probably hope that his recruiting will be better in an area that knows him and his story and he will sign great players.

Depending on the other options it isn't a terrible hire.
