I can honestly say I've never heard anyone call Commonwealth anything other than just Commonwealth.

There's that pesky TRADEMARK as well.

So how much is AG Life paying the Mack family for that pesky trademark they have on "WRTS". .............. I mean if Seatle has to pay........

UT - "Home of the Vols": weak.

I've never in my life heard Neyland called that. I'm sure an announcer or media person might say "Welcome to Neyland Stadium, the home of the Tennessee Volunteers" or something like that but that's not a nickname. Neyland Stadium is simply called Neyland.

I don't see the purpose of critiqueing any of them. They're all good - even Vandy in it's own way.
I like nicknames. I'm old school.
I fully respect the original Death Valley. I like ours too. Nothing wrong with having two.

I still like the 2 nicknames that were thrown around for Bryant-Denny during the Tubbs era:

Tommy Tuberville Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium
Jordan-Hare West

To be honest, BRUH....

I could care less what some google search shows you

Maybe that's what it was called in the 50's, which I don't think it was then.. but nobody under the age of 35 calls it "The Brice". Take that from a recent alum.

Colloquially.. it's referred to as Willy B but it's unofficial official nickname is still The CockPit. Call it "The Brice" and everybody around you will know that you're not a fan and DEFINITELY not an alumnus.

Ironically, several of the articles on the FIRST page of your oh-so-accurate search made no mention of "The Brice" at all... some even used the nickname "The Cockpit". Don't believe everything you read on Google.

It was only changed to Williams-Brice in 1972, so it certainly wasn't called "the Brice" before then. Prior to that year, it was called Carolina Stadium from 1941 to '72, and Columbia Municipal Stadium before 1941.

I have or read of W-B referred to as "the Brice" a few odd times, but never to any extent that it was generally regarded by that nickname. I have personally ever called it Williams-Brice, as I like how it sounds. I was born in '65, so as far as my consciousness is concerned, I've never known it by any other name.

I think "the Brice" has stemmed from other sports venues being shortened like "the Ted", or "the Joe", but those are derived from the first names of stadiums that actually have first and last names. I would take "The Cock Pit" over "The Brice" any day....

I've honestly never heard it called, "The Brice."

Coach Deitzel and I had a long conversation, actually had the conversation on more than one occasion but one was very public, about how he came about getting the money that eventually led to the re-naming to "Williams-Brice."

He had to gain permission from the family, then he had to enlist the help of Strom Thurmond who had to be negotiated with so that he could get equal money for Clemson ... then Coach had to travel to Washington D.C. to meet with a couple of other SC congressmen and then he came home and made it happen in the state legislature.

He built the West upper with the money, among other things. He upgraded the locker room and the weight room and a few other things. He raised enough money to "Carpet the Cock Pit" ... and he got it all done just in time for Jeff Grantz to arrive.

OP doesn't know dick.

Matter of fact I had a very public conversation with Coach Reeves about his brother and he and some other teammates and why they started calling it "The Cock Pit."

As the story goes once the Carolina-Clemson game began being played at both venues, 1960 I think it was, there seemed to be a bit of a race on to introduce new traditions and names to everything between the two schools. Memorial Stadium up in taterville had just recently been coined "death valley" around that time, and all the guys on Carolina's team had long been calling Carolina Stadium "The Cock Pit" because they had all grown-up in SC and GA seeing cock fights as kids. Fans had already been calling it "The Cock Pit" for years before that which was one of the reasons the Clemson legislators insisted on rushing the expansion of Memorial Stadium and getting the home and home agreement done. The whole death valley thing at Clemson had come about totally by accident but The Cock Pit was something that had started in the forties among the players under Rex Enright who had a drill similar to "bull in the ring" where players would enter a circle of other players they referred to as the cock pit - and basically a fight would ensue. Enright was there from '38-'55 except for the WWII years when he was serving ... so it happened sometime during that frame of time.

I vividly remember it being referred to as The Cock Pit when Coach Bass was there.

No

There was an old burger joint called the K Lair that UK owned and ran but hopefully that place has been removed by now.

K Lair got taken down a few years ago for new dorms or some such. As for nicknames, we just call it Commonwealth, as in "hanging out at Commonwealth." Don't often hear the full Commonwealth Stadium. No other nickname I've ever heard for it.

Never knew our STADIUM had a nickname.
