Petrino was the best at X's and O's and on gamedays IMO.

Another often used (but true) example is Saban with the Fins. Hell, he even admitted it himself when he said he could not build a team like he wanted in the pros. He pretty much said he could not acquire supperior talent and he sure as hell was not going to actually outcoach ANYONE in the NFL.

You seem to think that being a better coach means you're a better play caller

So? We lost 3 games in 2010. Probably the most talented team that year in all of CFB.

Point is, 2007 Arky was still more talented.

I am just talking about actual coaching abilities.

Recruiting and program building is part of it and saban is the best overall in college right now.

But the question was whether he could win a NC at Arky and I said doubtful because I don't think he could get enough supperior talent to beat the best of the SEC and do not think he is going to win on schemes and gameday coaching.

His current reputation would help though in getting the talent, so it is possible. I just said doubtful. But, again, possible.

Sadly, we were outcoached in at least 2 of those losses too.

So Saban takes the blames when he gets "out coached", but gets no credit for wins because of talent.

Also is recruiting and development not part of coaching?

Petrino is a great offensive mind, but no one in their right mind would say he is a better coach than Saban.

I gave my reasoning in the context of the question asked concerning Arky.

It does not require any further elaboration.

Well, he won one at LSU, and Arkansas is a much better overall program, so I'd have to say yes.

Better than Bama as well....he'd definitely tear shite up in Arkie

It's really this simple..... if Saban couldn't deliver a MNC at Arkansas within 5 years, then no one they hire can win one.
