Battle retires. Saban named AD. Smart named HC. Kiffin remains as OC. The well oiled machine just keeps spitting out championships. Oh yeah...and Boom to Bama as DC. (That part's a joke. )
We take Chiz as DC just to piss Aubie off

He is actually really good when he has done the Championship game. He breaks out of the coach speak process and lets his personality out.
I actually agree, but you never see this said by the media. Certain players especially can get him to warm up. It was a funny story a few years ago when Cody started sitting by Saban on the team bus when other players felt intimidated. And the walk-on Rob Ezell started doing Saban impersonations...he got a kick out of that.

Well, it would certainly be an upgrade over his current job.

I don't agree with the OP.
But were Saban to retire from the HC gig at Alabama, that certainly doesn't mean that there don't exist many other avenues in the private sector for him to get his cfb fill.

Why I think Saban will be the next AD...
1. Battle is 73 years old. Obviously was only hired to keep the seat warm and will himself retire within the next 2 years.
2. Saban cares about other sports at the university...evidenced by his help recruiting other athletes, speaking to other teams, etc.
3. Saban always likes another challenge...at least that's what everyone says whenever there's an NFL or big time college job open.
4. Smart slides right into the HC job. Smooth transition. Program doesn't skip a beat. Over time, Smart puts his own stamp on the program, but there would be zero disruption to program. Top recruiting class is maintained. Process continues.
5. Most important reason..."Cub" wants it. And as we have seen in the last month, what Cub wants, Cub gets. How do you cross a guy who can literally speak an entire D-I football program out of existence?

This is where you're wrong.
ADs don't go on recruiting visits. In fact, with the strictness of the rulebook, I bet ADs rarely get to even talk to recruits at all.
Smart would have to be just as good of a recruiter as Saban to maintain the current run of dominance in recruiting. Further, his own "stamp" is not going to be equal to the GOAT. It will be different and as history tells us most likely not as good.
Does Smart beat LSU this year? Come back to beat Auburn? Inspire his players to reload every year? Has he ever had full control of the defense?
Further, Kiffin's ego is in check because Saban is alpha. You think ole Lane wants to take orders from Kirby?

But it's not about a "college football fill", it's about being able to implement his "process" on a daily basis. He can't do that as an analyst for ESPN. The guy is (for a lack of a better term), a control freak. I don't think he would be satisfied doing anything other than running (with complete control) a football program. The only thing that would be comparable outside of running a football program would be running a Fortune 500 company, and I don't see that happening.

He's going to coach until it kills him. He couldn't handle retirement or being an AD.

I don't disagree with that at all.
I was thinking more along the lines of his own venture(s) (I.e., a George Whitfield type of enterprise for novice coaches, athletic apparel/equipment company, youth sports, private foundation work, restaurant(s), product endorsement, public speaking, recruiting consulting, etc.).
The sky's the limit.
But again, I don't see him walking away from his current job yet.

This. He'll quit when he starts to lose it and be dead within a year.
Better than than hanging around long after he loses it like Paterno.

Cub turns 70 this year. Doubt he will be doing much more than drooling in about three years. Not trying to be mean, but look at pictures of the guy. He has been ridden hard and hung up wet.

Coach Saban is today's Coach Bryant, he's driven to compete just like CPB. Coach Bryant only "retired" because he knew he didn't have the energy anymore to maintain the high standards he had set at his beloved university.
Coach Saban won't have the same problem, he's in excellent health. Little Debbie's are probably his worst vice. He looks to be good to go for at least another 4-6 years unless he suffers burnout. (Which seems unlikely.)
As for going somewhere else? Forget that, when he saw that overflowing crowd at his 1st A-Day game, I think he realized that he had finally found the one place to match his passion for CFB and WINNING.
It's a match made in heaven.

Nope, he is too driven. I see five more years, three more titles.

The Alabama job has been detrimental to coaches. If Saban is smart, he'll get out soon before he croaks like Bear Bryant did when the job killed him. Or maybe he'll underachieve and get bricks thrown at his house, along with death threats, like Bill Curry and his family. Perhaps he'll end up like Gene Stallings and Bama will try and tarnish his reputation to get him out. Given the stress, an affair with a secretary or excursion to a strip club might not be out of the question either
Tough being little brother, huh?

He'll stop at 74. Look for about 5-6 more MNC's between now and then

You are talking about the same Kirby Smart that I am, right?

Duhhhh, yeah, there can only be one GOAT...hence the "G".

Well, if you were you one of the misguided folks who predicted/hoped that the Kiffin hire would be a disaster, you probably think so. But why wouldn't he? Maybe Kirby gives him even more freedom.
