Met with some folks who are classmates of that group and apparently Paul Jr is hosting all of the living "Junction Boys" for the Bama game. John David Crow apparently will be there as well.

That's cool, I'm sure they'll have lots to reminisces about. Was Stallings one of them?

Is he thought of as a great coach or just a lucky one with some good seasons?

Went to the same high school as my dad in Springhill, Louisiana. He likes to joke that his high school has the same number of Heisman Trophies as my college.

JDC was on campus last year or the year before signing autographs. When I went to A&M years ago, I got Louisiana personalized plates AGGIE. I had him sign the back of the plate.

The 2 most prominent are Stallings and Jack Pardee who was an All Pro and then coached and invented the "Run and Shoot" at UH as well as then going to the NFL.

Crow was actually not a Junction Boy as he was a Freshman and at that time the Freshman played their own schedule. He is the only Bryant player to win a Heisman though.

well Stallings pretty much sucked arse when he was HC at A&M.

He gets remembered far better than his record deserves b/c his only winning season in 7 years he happened to upset Bama and Bear in the Cotton Bowl.

Seriously??? Stallings was a great coach. We had several 10+ win seasons with him. He is also a great guy, still very well loved and admired by all Bama fans.

He was using the run and shoot before he coached at Cougar High and he was not the one to invent it. It came from some high school coach and was first made popular by Mouse Davis and Portland State in the 70s.

I was talking about Stallings. I think Bear is safely in the great coach category.

I think Sherill and RC are both held in higher regard at A&M

I've never understood why he gets the love he does at A&M.

But I would say RC and Jackie are both far more loved than him. They actually won some games.

See that 1967 year?

He won a conference championship during a time (kinda like now) when we weren't winning a bunch of them.

John David Crowe's heisman trophy sits in the entrance of the Paul Bryant Museum. I think the Crowe family donated a copy.

All you Aggies going to the game need to visit the museum.

yes, I see that he had exactly ONE winning season. not really that big of a deal even if it happened during the suckiest of suck arse years.

and sorry don't care that he won the conference once in 7 years of being HC, Fran and Sherman both had more overall success which is sad.

That Cotton Bowl win was when he beat Bear Byant. The student beats his teacher.
