Mentone, Alabama
Love Mentone. Also in the area is Rome, GA and Chattanooga, TN. It's the trifecta of Deep South Appalachian foothills.

From a purely historical standpoint, Milledgeville, GA is pretty ripe with Antebellum history.

Old school feel with the downtown area. Hilly terrain with a few neat waterfall spots nearby. Ave Maria grotto. torri pines country club. Werners trading company, all steak (best steak and orange rolls ever). recently went wet. Kma barner boy little brother

I'm sorry but Cullman is awful. One of the most backward and "good ol boy" places in Alabama with nothing to do. I would hate living there. It has a horrible reputation all over the state.

It's because they're Germans, not proper Southerners at all.

Athens now has grease festival every fall where a bunch of vendors fry all types of food. Within miles of athens there is rails to trails walking path with a goat cheese factory nearby called belle chèvre. Tennessee and elk river are both within miles from city limits. Numerous bbq joints that are all worth a try, legendary burger place called dubs. As far as nightlife, gotta go to a trashy bar called macs, country club or booby bungalow up in Ardmore tennessee, roadhouse bars up in minor hill Tennessee, or hard dock down in Decatur. Great hunting and golf nearby as well

I just went to a wedding in Athens last September. Seemed like a decent place but not a whole lot going on.

Safe, reasonably priced, and good (not great) schools. A solid place to raise a family but boring as frick if you are young and single.

I mean, there is literally one bar (if you can call it that) in town.

I think the town has a lot of potential with the downtown/square area. Easily walkable, plenty of old buildings with loft area...it just needs some investment and vision. I am tempted to make changes and make it a hip place, but then I remember that I don't want to die in the same place that my paternal ancestors have for the past 223 years.

Welcome.

Head to Destin, Florida...

Go east and hug the coast on the 30-A. When you get to PCB, turn around and go back to Destin. Best sand in the country IMHO.
