Local radio personally and football expert was talking on his show about LSU lines struggling with depth, a player being ineligible, Key still being hurt and out of shape, and QB issues. He said he was becoming concerned LSU might not be competitive in the SEC this season.

I don't buy it, but wanted to hear from the locals what the buzz is around the program in the preseason.

no o-line depth
etling is still very limited at qb
i have faith aranda will have defense ready to go but he will be having to play a lot of freshmen.

9-3 or 8-4.

Offensive line is a concern. Defensive line is going to be fine.

I don't think Key is out of shape necessarily. I mean he reached his target weight, put a little meat on, but it's hard to think he's out of shape.

There are question marks, no doubt. 8-4 wouldnt shock me, but this team is still capable of beating anyone.

From what i am hearing: 1st string o-line is doing great. 2nd string o-line is struggling mightily. Depth at running back has improved with Clyde Edward Helaire doing amazing things. Etling has improved, Miles Brennan is living up to the hype. Wide recievers have been disappointing. Secondary has been lights out. Front seven continues to impress. Apparently conditioning will be huge for offense. Especially WR's.

Concern is legit for the offensive line. But not being competive is being a drama queen.

He mentions Key going back to Atlanta to see his own doctor...Not the team doctor. Any insight on that? Injury not healing properly?

I don't think we will be very good this season. I predicted 7-5.

luckily LSU plays a lot of mediocre teams so 7-5 would be pretty hard to do.

LSU's doctor gave an update on Key last week:

quote:

As for Key, LSU is taking a cautious approach to his return. Key set the single-season sacks record of 12 last season for LSU.

"His shoulder looks real good right now," Bankston said. "It's just kind of early after his surgery. His strength is good and I think we're probably going to be a little bit cautious with him coming in, as coach Orgeron alluded to in the press this week. He looks good and I think he's going to have a great season."

"He's going to his doctor next week and we should know pretty soon when he's going to play," Orgeron said Thursday.

Is it weird that he is going to his own personal doctor and not the team doctor to find out when he well play? Is this key protecting himself and his draft stock, or am I reading too much into it?

coach o claims there are a number of guys on the team who use their own doctor and he is fine with it.

Some folks just prefer to use their own doctor, especially if they have been long established with them.

I'd imagine if you were NFL talent, you have a second opinion outside of the school.

The OL is going to be the same OL it has been. It's not all of a sudden going to get worse after more practice. But at the same time we struggled last year at times, hence we may struggle at times again this year.

When Key gets back he'll be fine, it's Arden Key.

We performed decent at NT last year with little depth, we have more this year. I don't see how our freshman NT being ineligible is a concern all of a sudden.

Conclusion this years team will be better than last years for many reasons. O has extremly high expectations so when he says we are concerned here or there, he's basically saying that we aren't where he would like us to be, and that's dominant across the board. This is a concern for most teams IMO. I'm ready for the season to get under way.
