There is no reason to have Bama #1 with no real justification.

If FSU beats Clemson and Bama beats LSU I think it is safe to say Bama would go to #1. Ohio State could, but the win over LSU should propel Bama over them.

Have more of these than Bama does.

Also have more of these in the last 25 years.

All this complaining about Bama's ranking is saying to Bama's players "You don't deserve to be #4." So thanks for the extra motivation. Saban truly appreciated it.

The main reason is that Alabama has looked like the best team the entire season.

I know a lot of this post is tongue in cheek, but this part seems to be something that actually has some worth.

The thing that sort of bothers me.... why is college football the only sport on the entire planet where the eye test comes into play? Obviously, pro sports are based strictly on record and results. The college basketball selection committee goes strictly on résumé (SOS, quality wins, RPI, etc.) Same goes for college baseball.

So why is it that we don't go strictly by the same criteria for college football? Because there are less games? Which means less data and more subjectivity?

I just feel like the committee made a grave mistake when they added the "eye test" (perception, game tape, etc.) as part of the criteria. It's just unnecessary, to me. Who have you played, who have you beaten, who have you lost to? That's what it should all come down to in the end.

And it's not like this would hurt the SEC, or Alabama in particular. Strictly according to résumé, Alabama would have gotten into the playoff in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014. 2013 would have been close, but probably not.

The eye test just adds more subjectivity. And that's not what we need, IMO.

And really Alabama has the best win in the country. They beat Alabama. No other team can say that. The way they beat themselves, in such a dominating fashion is really impressive. Now people will want to point to their loss, but that was to a great Alabama team that played as good as you can expect. I didn't feel like they should be penalized too hard for losing to, what likely is the best team in the country, in Alabama.

I can't wait until this week is over one way or another.

I could care less where Bama is ranked. The teams will have to earn those final spots. The only thing I worry about is that having a name brand will help get you the bump if resumes are similar. But that is less likely a bias as it is doing what may be in the best interest in college football. A Notre Dame vs Alabama national championship is alwaya good for rankings. I don't know what their previous draw was, but I'm sure it was at least, if not better than, USC vs Texas or Alabama vs. Texas.

But LSU just needs to keep winning the importany games and we will be in. Hopefully no one is stupid enough to think Bama would get in over LSU if LSU wins Saturday.
