Your "rule" is broken.

OP said nothing about the team or fans wanting to keep them. If that's the case, Petrino wouldn't count because most people didn't want him gone but keeping him would open up the university to lawsuits. By your second post it would be "labor laws" that forced him out.

Petrino was fired because he bypassed qualified applicants in order to hire his unqualified mistress which is against the law.
